Search for 3-letter words is forbidden

The old version of the site allowed to search for 3-letter words. The current version doesn't:

The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: amd bug.
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 4 characters and must not contain more than 254 characters excluding wildcards.

This is a minor issue because there is always Google search by site.

I'm afraid there's not much that can be done about this - the search backend is different in this version. I'll leave this open on the off-chance Marisa happens to see this and maybe might have some idea what to do about this, but otherwise, this might be a new restriction we'll have to deal with. Which is bad, because there's a lot of 3-letter words.

I haven't seen a single forum whose search function was not broken. No surprise that these people made it even worse! Are there only idiots working in this field? This nonsensical 3 letter limit has been a problem in far too many forums already, and most of the time the reason is some "intelligent" search algorithm that suffers from lack of intelligence.

The minimum word length is configurable from the Search page in the ACP. Set it to 3.

Also, I noticed the site was running slow, so I restarted PHP. Sorry if you were doing any work on the database at the time. I didn't think of that possibility until after I did it.

After what happened when I first attempted to configure it, I wasn't sure it was a good idea to change it, especially on a site that was live and otherwise working fine.

That was just because the text search index hadn't been built yet, so searches had to do a sequential scan over all posts. You should be fine now.
