Enigmatic Worlds (Commercial) - [Demo out, feedback appreciated!]

Post by Darsycho »

Lil something I've been working on for the past month, my first go at a full-fledged commercial game! I basically got everything, except music, covered.

Anyways, this is a game partially inspired by Game Maker games from long ago that got me into Doom in the first place, such as the DOOMClone series. Fulla strange worlds populated by enemies, and not simple monsters either; each type possess many unique traits, abilities, and behaviors.

I aim to release in 2024, with at least 3-5 hours worth of gameplay.
Spoiler: Credits, so far
Will continue posting updates here, but you can also keep up to date on my Bluesky, Mastodon, Tumblr, Cohost, and YouTube!

I've always been a fan of your work, as it tends to stand out from more traditional projects. Different stuff is always fun to dig into. Really interested to see where this goes!

A Great playtime length for Great looking project. Love the dreamy, spacey ambient and the weapon sprite. I like it already!

Thank ye thank ye. Went ahead and added a itch.io page for this, and posted this tweet. As for the release, I'm not quite sure if it'll be this month cuz I have something else I want to release on halloween this year. I still got a lot of stuff in this to fix up, and have actual (original) music added in lol.

It looks great. I read that you made this in LZDoom. An interesting choice in the sea of GZDoom standalones, but i reckon this also runs there on GZ, or are you using more things?

It's in LZDoom cuz i use it by default over GZDoom, especially now that I'm currently working with a potato laptop. I do have plans on including GZDoom too though for those who prefer using that.

I see. Does the GLES renderer in GZDoom yield no results for you for your hardware?
Kinda bummed that its not an LZ-exclusive, then again the two are so similar.

Why bummed out? Just simply means people have more options instead of forcing them to use one thing. And from what I can tell, some things work better on GZDoom than LZDoom for some people and vise versa (like when my friend uses LZDoom, 3d models for some reason are completely distorted for them, but not in GZDoom.), I've also heard mouselook felt different in LZDoom than in GZDoom, haven't looked into that myself but this is just to name a few examples why giving multiple options would be great.

As for GLES renderer, now that you mention it I actually went ahead and downloaded GZDoom and tried it out and... it does run perfectly fine so... huh. Coulda sworn I tried the latest GZDoom before and it ran like crap, guess my memory is what's crap lol

SUP.

This was on hold for a while, I was honestly gonna cancel it cuz I didn't feel like editing it anymore, and was gonna shift my focus entirely on Unhinged 2, however I recently had a bunch of ideas that made me bring this back from the dead, lotta new mechanics n such that made this more fun, and I'm just taking it easy and not overthinking as much as I did lol.

I did add a bunch of new areas, but they're not in the slightest bit pretty so nothing really screenshot worthy, but I realized I hadn't really recorded gameplay footage of this yet so imma do that right now!
