Did you try native Linux version?
Also did you try other Proton versions?

I did not see a linux package, and when I tried to build the source I found I was missing make and probably more.
I tried proton 8, 9, 10 before my Xmas vaccation, I tried again just now and its working with with proton 10.
UDB also no longer crashes when I type in a textures name, or a lines tag.

I'm confused with the expected behavior of selection

Hi!

I’m a new UDB user and I’m learning how to use the tool, but there’s something that confuses me about selection behavior.

Is this behavior normal? I’ll explain my steps:

I have 2 sectors

I press the S key to enter Sectors Mode

I left-click on one sector

Then I left-click on another sector

Both sectors end up selected.

Is this behavior normal? The same thing happens in Linedefs Mode.

I’m asking because I understand this behavior as additive selection, which should only happen when holding the Shift key, but I’m not pressing it.

In the preferences, “additive selecting without shift” is unchecked.

Am I doing something wrong?

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, tested both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions, and the same thing happens.

I tried using a different physical keyboard and it still happens.

Is this the expected behavior? Or is something strange going on?

Thanks!!!!

That's certainly how I have UDB set up. I can't remember if it was like that "out of the box" or if it was an option that I chose. I do vaguely remember changing some setting related to this a long time ago, but I've been using the same preferences file for years now. So, I can be certain.

I like it to select things that way because it is consistent with other Doom editors that I have used in the past. However, it is different to the model editors that I use and that does sometimes cause a bit of confusion, so I understand what you are saying. I still much prefer UDB to be set up this way though.

This is the default and intended behavior. In most cases there's no point in selecting only one map element - the vast majority of hotkey actions work when the map element is just highlighted. You only need to select one element if you want to perform the action using the toolbar buttons or the menus.

The "additive select without shift" is when you drag a selection box around map elements. By default this clears the old selection. Holding shift will not clear the selection, and the setting in the preferences can make that the default.

I remember getting used to that in DCK even though DEU-sort editors didn't do it, among numerous other things they didn't deu like DCK. I continue to appreciate that Doom Builder does!
