Re: New Bug Tracking System Installed
It makes very little sense to add PRs to the tracker. I get a notification from Github anyway and that should be enough.

This is kind of a late response, but for some reason the confirmation email isn't working correctly. It also has a bunch of broken bb code in it for some reason.

When have you tried the last time? That should have been fixed last week.

For better quality when posting bugs, could any of you explain what the following words mean in terms of bug severity?
- Block
- Tweak
- Text
- Major - what is considered major? Same for the next three.
- Minor
- Trivial

Block: something doesn't work at all and it affects a lot of people.
Major: something breaks in a specific situation. (this should be the default)
Minor: something breaks in a specific situation and there is a workaround.
Trivial: something breaks in a specific situation and is purely cosmetic.
Also, no idea what's Text.

Re: New Bug Tracking System Installed
I saw a moment flash by when these forums were de-archived and re-archived again.
...and not to mention that there's now have an "on hold" section, does that mean the forums are coming back and mantis is going away?

Well, the cat's out of the bag now isn't it?
Yes. User engagement with Mantis is proving to be a problem - too many issues go unsolved because Mantis pretty much becomes a "dump-it-and-leave-it" and people do not check on their issues when further feedback is needed.

Re: New Bug Tracking System Installed
It was a good idea but it didn't work. Of course we can take some lessons and better organize the development forums. From what I see in the old bugs forum I think, for example, we should have two subforums for OpenGL and software rendering bugs so that stuff doesn't constantly get in the way of each other.
The good thing is, that I was able to move a lot of old stuff away over the weekend so that we can start clean with a small number of unresolved older issues.

I think from the user-side the forums were better anyway. From the dev side, though, Mantis definitely had a clear and HUGE advantage.
At least with a lot more people running around with purple names now, though, more of the devs who need to can now shuffle issues around when necessary, and can also take and close issues on their own instead of waiting for only one person who can close it.

Only because the "On Hold" sections were the biggest dead giveaways. I thought the board simply bugged out for a moment.Rachael wrote:Well, the cat's out of the bag now isn't it?

Re: New Bug Tracking System Installed
The Mantis bug tracker made it more difficult to keep up with discussions about development contained within reports, from a user perspective, as there was no "unread" indicator for issues like what topics on the forum naturally have. The Mantis tracker was also kind of an information overload. It has lots of stuff that's very useful for developers to see, but that also makes it much more difficult for users to find their way around. Even stuff like the e-mail settings are way more complex than regular users need it to be.
