I made it go through http://localhost/ and it worked is what I was saying. (Attempting to use a non-localhost URL failed, obviously.) What system does the news page use to embed posts?kevans91 wrote:The difference is going through webserver/PHP interpreter vs. actually attempting to read as a file off of the local filesystem -- which is what will be assumed if starting off with a path separator or no explicit protocol. =)Gez wrote:Well it's been a while since I meddled in PHP. Readfile worked for me with a localhost URL in my test, so I didn't expect a complication for using a local path.

I suppose I could try it, but the server uses virtual hosting so I don't know what host it will hit. It's likely it'll 301 to the "proper" host, invalidating the read anyway.

If you need any help with the Mediawiki API, I'll be glad to provide it.

All I need is to do this:ZzZombo wrote:If you need any help with the Mediawiki API, I'll be glad to provide it.
with pure PHP and no readfile() commands. Using internal Mediawiki functions (and knowing what files to include to get them).Gez wrote: E.g. main page done this way.

Ah, PHP is not that I know much of. But I guess I could dig into the Mediawiki code anyway, since I used to be familiar with it.

Many thanks Randi (& everyone else who has contributed to ZDoom) for your hard work over the years. ZDoom has been my Doom source port of choice for about as long as I can remember! Infact I've still got a copy of a page that I had on my Geocities site from 2000 that references it! : http://www.softwaretaylors.com/digital_ ... 0/Doom.htm
I did have another account on these forums but a) I probably haven't posted since 2008 b) I don't think I have access to the original email address anymore...

Though we never talked, saw eachother, or interacted, your contribution to the world has made a large impact on my life. I owe you at the very least a heartfelt farewell, if not more, for how much comfort and enjoyment i had as a direct result of your tireless work. I would question why but i suppose i really don't need an answer. farewell, and good luck to you. You'll not be forgotten.

Indeed. I like to imagine that "Euranna" is just the European spelling.Eruanna wrote:They got a few details wrong in that article.

I emailed the author, but haven't received any response, nor has the article been updated. I think they don't really care that much.

Well - PC Gamer is a somewhat major publication, but luckily it's not as major as, say, the BBC, or the New York Times. If one of those had picked it up (extremely unlikely given that Doom is extremely niche in the gaming community at large) it would have been a lot worse.
