Is there any Monster Behavior Overhaul Mod?

Post by Erenussocrates »

What I had in mind was, for example lets say someone is playing UV-max. I want monsters in the map to be aware of this, and act accordingly. For example, the monster count between 100% and 50% will be just default doom mobs behavior. If the monster count went below 50% in the map, the monsters will stop infighting, and the isolated and lonely monsters will just travel across the map by themselves and get close to each other, to create larger groups for survival. If the count went below 20%, I want monsters to disperse to the all kinds of corners of map and try to hide and even run away from the player, and only fight if they are caged in.
A mod that gives this kind of behavior to mobs would have been great I think. Is there any monster behavior overhaul mods like this? Or any behavior overhaul mods at all?

Some of what you mentioned might be doable. For example, having a running script that counts monsters and then gives the player a "fear" powerup when a certain threshold is reached, making monsters run away and attack less. Clustering together for survival probably isn't possible though.

I too would like to see some general AI overhaul mods that just tweak stock behaviors instead of adding new and complex ones. Make Imps try to circle around the player, Hell Knights close aggressively to melee range while Barons stay back and lob fireballs from a distance, stuff like that. Maybe I'll try to make something like that since I'll be done with school next week and I'll have time to mod again...

By the way, for future reference you'd probably be better posting stuff like this in the "cool ideas thread."

Those are some great ideas. It would be pretty fun to play through the original IWADs using a mod like that and see how differently the game plays.

Yeah, I love the idea for stock monsters, a new and improved IA.

Can monsters follow each other, though? When you spawn a friendly monster, they kind of follow you and Brutal Doom has or is going to have revamped marines that follow you very closely.
So when there's let's say 50% monsters left, they all start shooting special invisible projectiles, and when one monster is hit by another, the monster that is hit (or lower-tier monster) stops and starts following the "leader" monster. That way they can form packs following the strongest bad guy in it.

However, if you let them wander around for too long, they'll form one giant superpack. So I guess the leading monster has to have a function that scans how many other monsters follow it and if it's above a certain number, it stops shooting those invisible "Follow me!" projectiles. I'm not sure if that's possible, though.

If this becomes a thing, please give me credit and send me 100 normal chocolate chip cookies and 100 macadamia nut w/ white chocolate cookies for every download and/or praise by players.
