crash: setting the screen resolution: zdoom 2.0.63a

Post by Virgil »

This occurs whenever I try to set the resolution to 800*600 or higher while the game is in the titlepic screen.

Also, this occurs if I start a game, set the resolution and then quit ZDOOM. If I do this, the next time I start ZDOOM it will crash with the same error without even loading the titlepic!

This is VERY annoying, as I have a Pentium 3.4 and REALLY want to run ZDOOM at 1024*768, or even 1600*1200. :x

Here's the dump:

Is anyone even going to answer this..? C'mon, because of this bug, I can't play ZDOOM on higher than 640*480, even though I have a Pentium 4 3.4Ghz and 2GB RAM. DOOM3 runs at 1024*768, high quality at 60fps on my computer, so this is bullshit!

Dunno if this is in any way relevant, but I notice a load of texture names in that dump...

You say this occurs only when displaying the titlepic (or when it's about to do so). Is there any chance your IWAD could be corrupted? Try reinstalling the game and use the fresh IWAD.

I reinstalled the IWAD and what not. No good; same thing. Every time I change the resolution to higher than 640*480 while in the titlepic, it crashes. Every time I change the resolution while in a game and then exit ZDOOM, it crashes the next time I start it so that I have to manually change the .ini file back to 640*480.

The straneg thing is, though, if I change it in a game and then hit F7 to end it, the titlepic displays just fine with the higher resolution. That is, until I quit and restart ZDOOM...

What if you start up using -warp command while set to a higher resolution? Does it still crash?

Yes, it crashes when I warp. Same error, same exact dump.

Hell, it even crashed when I changed it to 720*480! THIS IS BULLSHIT! I want 1600*1200! :x

This definitely seems like a bug and not something my computer's guilty of.

It COULD be your computer. No-one else seems to have this bug so there is the possibility it is system-related bug.

Not just a possibility... but it's a fact that something in his system is causing this.

What's your video card and driver version?

It's driver issues, probably. Those always seem to cause stuff like this.

My video card is GeForce 6800 Ultra and I have the latest drivers for it. I have DirectX 9.0b as well. So I don't get what the problem is. Certainly not my system. Unless ZDOOM doesn't support the newest video cards (WHICH IT SHOULD SUPPORT IN THE 1ST PLACE!!!).

And, for the record, I just tested at 1600x1200 and it works fine.
