Uhh, then why did he drop Linux support in the first place?

BTW, can't you just use Wine or some other Windows emulator to play ZDoom as it is?

I'm not saying a Linux version is a bad thing, but right now Randy seems to be preoccupied with DECORATE enhancements and Strife support. You may be waiting for awhile.

The next version should be compilable under Linux. It's just not as "finished" as I would like. (i.e. No option of using SDL_mixer instead of FMOD and no OpenGL framebuffer.)

Huh, I was just thinking that you would use SDL_mixer instead of FMOD a while ago. It's good to hear that you want to do that at some point. That should make it possible to compile in BSD too.

I would be happy enough if you simply check that it still works in Linux before you release (or release a fixed version shortly afterward, if necessary).

And please don't distribute it in a cab...because i don't think i can extract cabs...maybe a cab AND tar.gz.

What? Neither ark nor mc do not read cab files? What a shame!

Nope. Because CAB files are Microsoft. I've never heard of a game other then ZDoom that distributes their game under cabs...only zips, tar.gzs, tar.bz2, and rars.

I imagine cabs don't have as good compression either.

Try it for yourself. Pack up the files into some other format and see "how much better" you do. I've tried and gotten close, but never better. Good luck. I think .ha was the closest I got. There probably is some obscure format out there that's a little bit better compressionwise... but no one has ever heard of it, and we certainly won't be able to use it. If linux truly does not suppot the .cab file, then I'm sure Randy is planning to distribute it in some other format; however, for those of us for whom the current version is intended, the .cab format is pretty ideal.

.7zip is the best compression method ever, but I've never actually seen it used.

WinZip is shit. There are much better compression managers out there.

Winzip is not shit! It does not suck! It is a useful program that has become a standard. It does everything it is supposed to and is easy to use. I'm not saying there are not other tools that support more formats with better compression ratios - there are.

However, just because there are alternatives which offer better options it does not make Winzip shit. Shittiness should stand on its own and not be because something else is better. If Winzip didn't do what it is supposed to, or had obscure controls or crashed or something, I could understand it being described as shit - especially if fully justified. But not being someone's preference does not make something shit.

Why is it nowadays, when people don't like something they make an absolute statement about it? That seems to be the only level of criticism people can manage these days, especially on the internet.

OMG it sux0rz LOLz !!!!!!111one
