How hard do you like your Doom levels?

Just out of curiosity.From 1-10, How hard do you like your doom levels to be? "1" being easy like the orignal Doom episodes, to "10" where it's almost impossible like Hell Revealed II (or harder).

I like to face 5000 arch-viles with my fists (that’s my version of a challenge)

To be honest, even though I've been playing Doom since '95 or '96, I'm still not a very good player. I can't take on HR or any of the very difficult maps that have been released. I mostly play mid-difficulty level wads, and as long as they remain interesting to me, I'll continue to attempt to beat the level as long as I don't see it as being completely unfair (or out of my skill league).

A challenge is always a nice thing, though.

Good luck with that.

I like maps where I just barely survive the battles and manage to scrounge up enough health to last another fight. That's exciting.

Anytime I load up a new wad I always try it on ultra-violence first.

Average difficulty...in other words, the biggest swarms of monsters would usually consist solely of imps or demons, the "filler" monsters would just be hitscans (with limited numbers of chaingunners), and the toughest battles would be four or five Hell Knights and a couple of Revenants, or a single Arch-Vile.

Not to say I don't like a challenge on occasion, but these "super-tough" mapsets like HR and AV really don't please me at all - mostly because there are too many archies.

I even beat HR, and most of it wasn't that much of a struggle. I like it to be at roughly level 8. Hard enough to challenge me to the limits of my ability, but not so frustrating as to make me get bored of trying repeatedly.

I also occaisionally like a wad that's easy and fun. Something I can just cruise through quickly and casually.
