[4.9+]Sporadic start-up crashes

Post by Major Cooke »

I'm getting sporadic crashes when starting the game up with some mods attached. This one crashed after catching errors and aborting.

Interestingly enough, it used to be on version "4.2" and only today did I up it to version "4.10" and that's when the crashes started happening.

I'm sorry but a report like this doesn't help me. You load so much stuff that it's impossible to recreate the proper setup. First, what versions of the mod files did you load and second, can you make a smaller, contained example?

I wish I knew what was even causing the problem in the first place. I was hoping some insight into the crash report might help so I can replicate the problem.

Okay, I think I managed to narrow down the cause. Apparently, trying to spawn things or give inventory in WorldLoaded for event handlers seemed to be some of the cause. I'm checking over some more to see if it still crashes further. If it doesn't, then I'll try to replicate.

Okay, finally got it to replicate.

Download this test file and try to boot it up until it crashes. If it doesn't crash, exit and boot it again.

Attached is the crash report, in case it doesn't.

I got it too using Brutal Doom Black Edition, from a few last master versions, glad I'm not alone :)

Can happen 1/2 of the time on my side. Was too lazy too run a Debug build to analyse at present, thanks to Major Cookie to narrow it down (maybe).

Well, I can't narrow it down without a bit of extra help in this regard because any number of things could be doing it.

Turns out I was 2 commits behind, meaning I was missing this commit. It seems to have stopped crashing now but I'll leave this open and do some more testing just to make sure.

Alright, it hasn't happened again after launching it 100 times.

@vsonnier: I'd recommend getting a devbuild from November 28 and later, hopefully it'll fix the same crash you're experiencing.

Closing this. If it comes up again, I'll just make a new thread.
