[imgur] tag

We sure do have a lot of rules and guidelines threads - find them all here, and please make sure you've read them! Also, community-wide announcements (that aren't major ZDoom News) go here as well.

[imgur] tag

Post by Rachael »

A new tag has been added. It should be pretty straightforward to use - just paste an imgur link inside imgur tags - like so:

Code: Select all

[imgur]http://imgur.com/w3vYVcr[/imgur]

Note that this does not work with album links. This can only be used for individual images.

This automatically resizes your image according to forum rules and creates a link to imgur for the full-sized image.

This is meant to take a lot of work out of getting imgur links to work properly on the forum.

To get the proper link, click on the "copy" in the upper right corner of the image.

Can you make it work with direct image links as well? Currently

Code: Select all

[imgur]http://imgur.com/fNUAkVt[/imgur]
works fine, but

Code: Select all

[imgur]http://i.imgur.com/fNUAkVt.png[/imgur]
does not. Yes, I know those can be used with the [img] tag, but then I have to take care of the linking/thumbnailing manually. Ideally the end result would be the same, but widening the possible input seems reasonable to me.

EDIT: To piggyback on Xaser, perhaps the first style (as it works currently) can link to the imgur page, and the second style (direct image link) can go to the direct image.

Hmm, the generated links go to the imgur page that hosts the image, rather than the image itself. This behavior would be useful for albums, but since those are unsupported, it'd be preferable if the generated link goes to the full-size image directly instead. Otherwise, this is aces.

I've tried several links and imgur seems to insist on using their presentation page. However it finally worked when I turned off https in the link.

I don't think that is possible but I can try playing with it more, later.

It's not possible. I'm stretching the limits of the BBCode system on phpBB 3.0 as it is.

That is really friggin' weird, but sure enough, I'm seeing the behavior too after mucking about with it. o_O

Amusingly, the HTTP link redirects to HTTPS anyway... I wonder if Imgur's intent is to redirect you to the wrapper page always, but the automatic HTTP->HTTPS redirection thwarts this? Would be highly amusing to see a major site also struggle with URL rewriting rules. :P

It'd have to be a different tag ([iimgur] or [imguri] perhaps?).

What's the advantage of [imgur] over good ol' [img], if I may ask?

Able to post a link to imgur without scaling it down or going down the [url=][img] chain.
