Before posting your Resource, please make sure you can answer YES to any of the following questions:
Is the resource ENTIRELY my own work?
If no to the previous one, do I have permission from the original author?
If no to the previous one, did I put a reasonable amount of work into the resource myself, such that the changes are noticeably different from the source that I could take credit for them?
If you answered no to all three, maybe you should consider taking your stuff somewhere other than the Resources forum.
Hello. Over the last few years I've messed around with GZDoom modding on and off. I created a number of experiments that I may never end up actually using in a project so I figured I'd share them with the public in case anyone else has a use for them.
EDIT: Updated the expired links for the Souleater and Duke Nukem creatures as of 5/22/2021
OMEGA LICH (Added 5/16/2021):
Spoiler:
Another monster I created by screenshotting a 3d Model into sprites. He's a bit of a rush job, mostly to test a few experiments I would put towards I possible TC mod I have been pondering for a long time. I used a public domain 3d Model from the Mixamo community, edited the skin texture to make it easy to adapt to DOOM's palette. Then I took screenshots of him being animated.
Here is the Soul Eater. At one point I was considering trying to make some form of TC mod for DOOM or Heretic using all new (to the ZDoom world anyways) monsters and items. I intended to do this by converting various 3D assets I had acquired and mocapping them into sprites.
Here's my test subject. I gave his a retextured skin designed to conform to a 256 color VGA style palette then converted him to sprites using a primitive "film studio" I coded in Unity. Here is a preview video of the results as well as a couple of item sprites I created in a similar manner. Keep in mind I never completed sound effects a formal AI for him, nor was he ever intended to blend in with DOOM's spritework. This video is just to showcase the sprites in an in game environment:
In case anyone wanted them here are the sprites in their original size before I scaled them down for the in game version. These are just loose files not inserted into a wad or given a proper naming format. Also the original sprites were filmed in a rather ugly palette that would be easier to convert once the final sprites were done: https://www.sendspace.com/file/e039ec
CREDITS:
- 3DFoin Team for creating the original 3D model I converted into these sprites.
- Myself for creating a simplified palette skin and converting the model's various animations into sprites.
ORANGOMEN & NEPTUNIAN:
Spoiler:
A pair of enemies I offered for Duke Nukem's Alien Armageddon Mod. The developers liked them but determined they wouldn't be fitting for their game:
These two enemies are only uploaded as their loose art/sound files, being I never adapted them to ZDoom and the Duke Nukem adaption was made for a very specific mod with its own script commands. So I didn't want to spend the tedious time trying to retool their code for vanilla EDuke. They are also formatted for Duke Nukem's palette, so they might look a bit ugly out of true color mode without manual palette adjustment. Good news is the original, unscaled art files are included:
Neptunian was created using the Alien Creature Model.
Orangomen are a composite of a character I created in an older very of Mixamo Fuse and the head of public domain Gorilla Model who's link is now broken.
Sound Effects are edits of this sound pack, generic gorilla noises, and sounds I created myself.
Additional sound effects taken from DOOM, Contra, and Dark Forces.

Yeah, For the Soul Eater I doubled the animation count from DOOM's standard (8 walking frames instead of 4 for example). I noticed prerendered monster sprites tend to look rather choppy when animated at DOOM's standard frame count. I also took advantage of ZDoom's scaling ability and use sprites at 3x vanilla DOOM's resolution, which helped preserve a lot of details. Trying to scale down prerendered model sprites gets rather ugly looking quick.
Those two Duke Nukem styled enemies were magnificent, but since the developers of Alien Armageddon said that they wouldn't be fitting for Alien Armageddon,
but would they be used for several Duke Nukem mods? (For Example; The AMC TC)

I've released them to be public domain. Developers are free to add them to whatever game mods they wish. As far as I know they have not officially appeared in any Duke Nukem mod. This is the first time I've released them to the public.
