Re: REDS OVER WORLD - 30-level Cold War TC - 2.0 VERSION AVAILABLE!
To be fair, if you are firing a real weapon, the easiest way to know how much ammo you have left is probably to count the shots that you have fired (I guess you could count down too - I don't know, I'm not a gun-ologist). There's no real-life "shots remaining" HUD for most weapons. Having a counter like that strikes me as being as much a game convention as anything. I'm not saying that either way is more or less convenient (especially as I don't even like reloading weapons in Doom (as I already mentioned)) but there is some logic in the shots fired being counted.

Re: REDS OVER WORLD - 30-level Cold War TC - 2.0 VERSION AVAILABLE!
I have just returned from watching a livestream of ICARUSLives Reds Over World 2.0. The first livestream he did of it, back in 2024, was a big embrassment for me; he didn't like the mod, as the 1.0 version was filled with bugs, poorly made guns, and all that stuff. His version of ROW actually even would crash upon him dying, and the game would crash/bug frequently, leaving him very frustrated and me very embarassed.
But 2.0? It's like night and day - he had great fun playing it and said he's certainly going to replay it in the future. He played it with the ROWan add-on by ZikShadow. It was really a nice thing to see, seeing a YouTuber which really got me hard into DOOM modding after I had a break from it back in 2015-2016 enjoy my creation.
I want to use this ocassion to thank everyone who enjoyed Reds Over World, especially with the new 2.0 version; all the 4k+ people who downloaded ROW 1.0 (It's as much as TWO MOTI's, and only in ONE year!), to the Doom community for featuring ROW in Cacowards 2024, for ZikShadow for making ROWan for people that prefer more real life-accurate guns I would never be able to program (the only problem with that add-on I have is that it removed Hannibal's sounds, those random loud noises are kinda a part of my signature humor hah).
Who would have thought that this little project that started out looking like THIS...

...would be called "fun", and a good WolfenDoom mod, approved by the maker of Blade of Agony, get itself an add-on of it's own, people genuinely interested in it's lore, and would even get a Special Mention at Cacowards.
I'd raise a glass of Mishima Purified Mariana Trench Water for you, if not for the fact People's Liberation Army Navy destroyed the whole supply in the South China Sea area back in 1990!
Thanks for the support and your continuing contributions to my mod to everybody!

This is something Zik mentioned several posts ago; I have no clue how it happened, because I remember it working - basically, the door that is supposed to open, won't open. Maybe during the fixing I did for 2.0, I accidentally messed with the switch?

Or you could just noclip through that wall. You'll have to cheat your way through, eventually, as the real difficulty of this mod is its horrible performance whenever the going gets tough.
The final fight gave me 2 fps.

Weird, I didn't have FPS problems while testing the game, even with my famously weak and outdated PC. Let me guess, it was during the second phase when the Dome Of Light starts shooting the bullet hell sparks?Ihavequestions wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 6:12 pmOr you could just noclip through that wall. Next time im making a wad with big levels like these, im splitting the maps in two (or even three or four), to keep the detail but also keep the players from having FPS issues.

You're using the statusbar. ROW uses the fullscreen HUD by the default. Hit the + and - key to adjust HUD modes.

Yes, but before that, I got down to 14 fps in fights with several of those Soviet electroshocker dudes, and in static scenes, it was often around 25-30 fps. So not too great, either.WojtTheDoomer2K wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 7:33 pmWeird, I didn't have FPS problems while testing the game, even with my famously weak and outdated PC. Most significant slowdowns were observed around restaurant bars. It's something about the dynamic lighting, light sources. Either your use of those is extremely inefficient, or it may be just as well some driver issue, idk. It is always connected to lighting somehow because the (unlit) rest of your maps actually runs very fine with very high fps.
The Ashes TC has probably the best performance handling of all 'big map' mods. Ask Vosty and ReformedJoe on how they are achieving it. But your maps in general are fine.Next time im making a wad with big levels like these, im splitting the maps in two (or even three or four), to keep the detail but also keep the players from having FPS issues.
And your whole mod is truly outstanding, especially considering you did this all alone.

What is the spec of your machine? I bought mine in 2016 and gave it a mid-life memory and graphics card upgrade a few years ago. It was a very good PC when I got it, but it's behind the curve now and I had nothing like the kind of slow downs that you are describing.

Re: REDS OVER WORLD - 30-level Cold War TC - 2.0 VERSION AVAILABLE!
It's probably faster. It can run Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing, so it should suffice to run a GZDoom mod at least equally well, I would think.

It probably is faster. Path tracing in Cyberpunk causes major slowdowns for me (without it, it runs very well though).
Yet I didn't have the problems you had. Of course, performance in Cyberpunk and performance in GZDoom are very, very different things, but it is odd that you had problems on what sounds like a pretty decent machine.
