So as many may know, GZDoom now stores config data inside "<user>\Documents\My Games\GZDoom". Or supposedly so.
On this one computer I have, it is instead going to "<user>\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\GZDoom".
I do NOT want this OneDrive rubbish on my computer. It's causing so many problems - for example, a lot of my scripts that assume "%UserProfile%\Documents" now does not work.
Anyone know how to get rid of this POS?
Absolutely NOTHING I've tried works. Don't think I didn't try to Google this information. If you can find it on Google, it does NOT work so please don't suggest me the usual answers like:
- editing the local group policy to disable OneDrive features
- registry edits (the above just does this, anyway)
- unlinking and then uninstalling OneDrive
- removing the OneDrive environment variable
- goes without saying but I DO restart my computer after any of these attempts, NOTHING works. The god damn OneDrive folder is still there and continues to be used by the OS
I just want Windows to save to, and reference stuff from the usual Documents directory, why does it have to be this difficult?!

Re: OneDrive refuses to go away... (Windows 10)
The simplest answer is to use a fully local account that is not Microsoft-sync'd. In both Windows 10 and 11 and also Server 2022 this has been a basic requirement for me.
I have always made my accounts by creating them as Local first, and if I need Microsoft sync'd shit I will sign into the account using Edge or Store. Using a local account I have also been able to avoid using OneDrive entirely, to the point of actually allowing me to uninstall it.
If you're ever stuck using Windows 11 Home for some god-forsaken reason, and it's forcing you to make a Microsoft account, you can use the usual bypasses or you can hit Shift-F10 during OOBE (last stage of setup) and type net user /add Nash * (WITH the asterisk at the end) and then enter your new password from the command prompt - followed by net localgroup Administrators Nash - then when OOBE is finished you log out of the Microsoft created account and into your local one.
This is one of the most massively egregious encroachments by Microsoft and you should never be forced into this crap.
If you are already on a Microsoft account, create an Admin Command Promot session and use the OOBE setup commands listed above (the net user/localgroups ones) - and then copy all of your files to the new account (make sure to *copy*, and make sure to get *all* of the files you need), then log out and back in to the local account, and then go ahead delete the Microsoft account from the control panel. After it is gone, you should be able to uninstall OneDrive as usual and be rid of its curse forever.
