Re: Nmn's Workshops - New Monster - The Outcast Leader

Post by Nmn »

Thread bump.

New monster - the Outcast Leader - in da first pooooaast. Along with the Grunts they form the base for the Outcast tribes.

I kinda have mixed feelings about them ingame, and the cartoony design... I dunno...
Next time, maybe I'll make something from scratch, without the use of 3d models. I also have a bunch of decorations and items done for my project, but kinda I find them meh. I'll upload them next week.

Wow, these are incredible! Fantastic work, these sprites are your best work yet! Can't wait to see what else you come up with!

RE: Outcast leader - I haven't tried them out in-game, but I think the "cartoony" design works well and looks great!

Thanks guys :)

The Leader is sorta big in-game, kinda looks cardboardy. Dunno, maybe with the right setting it'll fit in.
Yeah I'm cooking stuff up all the time :D

Double post wheeeee

Posted some new stuff in the first post - this time it's props and not critters. These are a bunch of items and decorations I've done for my project, which is in progress.
I kept some, hated the others. I felt like sharing so there ya go. All of them were done from scratch so feel free to use in your commercial games if you're into that kind of stuff.

A couple notes if I may:

Items - Besides the obvious, the cloaking suit changes camouflage patterns (blur sphere replacement) with each frame, it kinda looks wicked in the game :trippy: The black medkit is an obvious berserk pack, looks like a virus case (that logo reminds me of Umbrella Inc.). I used blue crosses on medpacks to avoid copywhining.

Decorations - Simple stuff again. I always wanted to have a 16-rotational frame chair sprite in Doom but never found one, so I made it myself (8 angles for rotation actually due to mirroring, less work needed nya nya). While I'm not fond of furniture made out of sprites these look surprisingly decent in game.
Enjoyed working on them rocks, man I really want to play around with textures, but you know how it is with free time and a day job.
I've also included the blazes if anyone's inclined to play around with them.

That's it for now.

All the I'm preview links appear broken to me... :(
The main links are fine though. Fantastic work. I love the monsters...

That's weird. Everything works for me tho.
Maybe DRDTeam was offline for a bit, it's all hosted there. Try it now.

Good items and such here! Always enjoy seeing what new sprites you come out with, and I might have to use a few of these for my own projects, tbh.

I like these monsters, a lot of them are very original 1994 System Shock.

Some more robots would be cool, especially Doom-style civilian robots in the vein of System Shock's Serv-bots, and the Astrostein melee robot, a sort of standard general purpose robot designed for basic maintenance, science and other minor automated services.

While creating a mod for personal use I implemented the Harubus, Hindring, Blade Monkey, and Wargrin. Since I took the time to separate and align their sprites for my mod I figured I might as well share the formatted sprites with everyone. So here is a WAD containing their sprites formatted for DOOM:

https://www.sendspace.com/file/1phnom

NOTES ABOUT THE WAD:

- It only contains the sprites. No code, sound effects, or anything else. It was mainly intended to save anyone who wants to use those enemies in their own projects the tedium of having to separate and the align the sprites themselves, being I've already done it.

- It also contains Nmn's replacement sprites for the small candle, candelabra, soul sphere, and invincibility sphere.

- It also contains the Heavy Armored Zombie sprites made by Pandut. Since I also took the time to format them I decided to include them in the package.

Awesome work you've done there, buddy!
I should probably put the remainder of monsters into wad format myself to make it easier for people to use. Once I get some free time from work and my personal project I'll keep that in mind.
Cheers!

I've recolored and adapted your Blade Monkey. Hindring is the next.

Once I playtest them in my mod and make them feel the way I want, I will upload them as separate creatures.

P.S.
And with a proper moveset

P.P.S.
And a monster based on Hindring is ready as well.

P.P.P.S. And your shooty guy is an awesome addition to my mutant faction. I just recolored him a bit to fit in the palette. Thank you!
