Thanks Vegeta, your support is always much appreciated :)

Yeah.
Are you Blackfish by any chance?
SyntherAugustus wrote:Is it possible to make a widescreen friendly edition of this weapon?
I suppose, considering it's my gun. But only the first frame, you're going to have to paste the rotating barrels on your own, which shouldn't really be difficult.
I remember this gun had more frames to it, and I've painted a concept art of it just to show off in 2005. Good times.

I model them out in Gmax, which is a very old version of 3d Max from 2004 I believe, and is freeware. I've learned the interface 15 years ago and been pretty much using only that for everything. It doesn't have rendering, so I have to touch up the sprites by hand once the model is screen-captured and made into frames. I use a combo of Photoshop CS 5 and Animation Studio by JASC (old and crappy, but get's the job done).

IMO, I use dated tools. Today, I strongly recommend Blender as a modelling soft, I myself haven't had the time or motivation to learn it tho. And for pixel art I've heard a lot of good opinions on Aseprite, tho GIMP will also do.
And thanks.

I am BlackFish! Recent name change.

I can hack together additional frames (it was a lot!) with that edit for sure. Would make for a fun weekend project.

Wow it's been a while there eh?
So I take it your Akai didn't pull off from the ground? Dang it. So many projects I recall from the ol' days...

Anyway, thread bump. New enemy in first post. I wanted to make the Ratmen since like 2010 or something.
Initially it was meant to be a medieval enemy with a crossbow, but I went dark sci fi pretty much. I kinda like sci fi that incorporates fantasy elements like orcs or goblins and such, like Shadowrun.
Anyone wiling to use, feel free to.

Aknai never quite took off unfortunately. I made a lot of concept drawings for it back in the day though. These days I'm working on music albums during my spare time, and the universe where that project belongs to will be revisited when I get there. (That is, when this album is done.)

If I had more spare time on my hands besides work (I do theatrical carpentry building touring shows), I'd definitely get back to making my game ideas a real thing.

I encourage you to try that. It definitely made me much happier.

Yeah, as a matter of fact. Once I'm done with the monster I'm making right now I'll dabble around with some weapons before I make the actual ones for my project, got some ideas from allover the place.

Also updated the first post with a new monster from my mod. Sharing is nice, it's extra motivation for me.

Ooh, I love the Wolf3d mutant-style enemy! You don't see many enemies in that style often, this is a welcome surprise, thanks a lot for sharing :D

Just dropping in to say how much I am liking these. Making a full new sprite set is a lot of effort and I really appreciate the work going in to these. I particularly like the Rat Man.

Always super awesome! I check daily this forum, and this time this thread is updated it's like Christmas. I noted some of the monsters look more in sintony with the stock sprites if you add a -10 brightness, but it can be just me.

How are you able to crank these out so fast and still maintain such a high level of consistent quality?

Truly excelent work.

Thank you all VERY much for the kind words :) Doubles my motivation.

Well.. lots of practice in the following years, I suppose. I kinda imitate the process behind Doom sprites by using models and pixel touching them up later on, adding details and such, except I'm using 3d models rather than clay models, it speeds up the process. I've known my 3d app (Gmax) for over 15 years now so I can pretty much model simple models rather quickly.

Hello!

I was recommended to look at your works again.

Was looking at the Hindring. Hindering...Hingdring

*short pause while checking spelling*

Yes, haha I got it right!

Anyway, this little beastie has given me an idea. Do you mind if I use him for something. Will be somewhat of an edit, but credits will be given.

And if not, that is not a problem. I just think this beastie looks ultra cute.
