Forum rules
The Projects forums are only for projects. If you are asking questions about a project, either find that project's thread, or start a thread in the General section instead.

Got a cool project idea but nothing else? Put it in the project ideas thread instead!

Projects for any Doom-based engine (especially 3DGE) are perfectly acceptable here too.

Please read the full rules for more details.

Wow, bad time for you to respond... Sorry about the mess. I'm thinking of asking the mods to delete this thread again and maybe just going to a different site altogether. Anyway, we should talk in PM or over IRC, because this isn't really the place right now...
I don't yet have a thread for it
Hence why I didn't know about your project until I was over a week in. Finding your project actually convinced me that a thread was important...
The advice being given here is being given in good faith, I can guarantee.
I know. This isn't nearly as bad as the thread I asked the mods to delete, but the point was more that I'd rather just work on this than try to explain that, no, this is not my first project, I don't need a link to the wiki, and to defend myself from constant criticism. I'm really sorry you had to walk in on this, because honestly, I really wasn't here to play diplomat, I made this thread to consolidate the work I'm doing with others. Like I said, the Doom community is more toxic than I'm used to...
After all, the effort -> result ratio of adding features to the mod is much greater than trying to make a case in text here.
Hence why I'm ignoring the peanut gallery.

I really don't understand why you think this is toxic. You certainly haven't reported anybody's posts, and nearly every single person here is bringing up legitimate concerns. If you want "toxic," there are other forums far, far, far, far, far worse than we are.

You know, I kind of realize that: the worst of it WAS on the other thread. I'm just reacting in shock from how negative the response was. I posted these threads with the intention to cut through the bullshit and get to work, and I expected what normally happens when I do that: a few people come around and say "oh, this is a thing now?" and are maybe cautious or maybe enthusiastic, some offer advice or help. I did not come prepared for the first thread to go on for two pages with people (it's been pointed out that it was mainly two people, in hindsight) throwing around baseless accusations and insults because I'd said I wanted to continue the work of a dead project. I reacted poorly, and I'm sorry that I wasn't a little more gracious, but I just don't want to deal with the Doom community's toxic negativity...

When I say "Toxic", I mean how horribly jaded and negative people in this community tend to be. It's never enough to say "I just started on this, and it's really incomplete, but I was wondering who had interest in it". I'm remembering whole projects that I really liked the early stages of where the thread filled with so many people saying "this is shit" that the person making them gave up and left. I actually think this is the reason we don't have any completed HD sprite packs, because those are the worst for it: someone will put all the sprites through an 8x filter that's better than the engine's, then starts redrawing details on a couple, and people complain about it not being good enough the second they release it. They get discouraged and abandon it. At some point I was in a chat with Code Imp on one of his projects and he shot someone down for being too critical of someone's rough draft, because he and I had gotten to the point that we wondered just how many projects that would've been good died in their beta stage because everyone was so busy complaining about other projects that had failed that they made the person feel bad for trying...

Dealing with the pessimism of the community really sucks the fun out of making new stuff.

I don't want to go through that anymore, I just wanted to have a mod for Doom that lets me play it like Metroid Prime, because I really enjoyed both games. I didn't want to have to sit here defending the idea that I'm even doing work on it (which I'm not right now, because I'm replying to threads) to the entire ZDoom community. I wanted this thread though, because I need a place to coordinate this stuff and bring in new people. Obviously, that's not going to work, because I can't have it long enough to get someone in here to talk about the actual project without people filling it with comments about whether or not anything can actually be made...

Well stop stop typing and start mapping then. If at first complaint you'd cheerfully said you'd do so and then delivered everyone would be happy, your project would be further along and more people would be inclined to help out. I hope you do, because a full metroid TC would be pretty great to play.

Tell you what, Raccoon, I'm not really liking the fact that you're continuing to accuse us of "jumping on" your project just because we're (rightfully, IMO) showing some hesitation in immediately joining and helping you out for free with no prior knowledge of just what experience you have with modding. You have said on a few occasions that you have skills, that you've been in the community since however long, but there's no evidence of this. I had said to you in the other thread that people would be more likely to join and help if there were some semblance of a project to begin with. Since you've shown me that you'd rather dismiss everybody's legit criticism as "the peanut gallery" than actually listen and acknowledge any of it, I'm going to close your thread. Please don't start another one until you have something to release that demonstrates what you've actually done.
