Doesn't look that way to me. Looks awesome.TerminusEst13 wrote:

If a mapper spends more than two hours on a single room, not really getting anywhere, it may be time to change their planning/methods.
I found this out the hard way.

No worries. You're good at mapping and the funny thing is, i'm suck at map and didn't even made any map for doom.TerminusEst13 wrote:Don’t worry, guys, I’m still bad at mapping!

Re: On Cosmic Tides - Yar har, fiddle dee dee! [WIP]

Don’t worry, it’s not actually blood. It’s some kind of space alien hazard liquid thing. Maybe fuel. Or radiation.
Or once we get to making original textures, maybe it will be blood and blood is a viable power source or something.
I don’t really have a lot to talk about for these updates when it comes to mapping. Which is odd, because with every mapping session I’m always discovering something new and cool about mapping. But I suppose it’s primarily because…well, I just don’t know as much about mapping. I’m still new and unskilled.
It doesn’t help that these designs aren’t solid. I mean, obviously, WIP, not even beta, anything can change, etc, etc. But my design process is usually one of “do it. does it work? no? throw it out and do it again.”, a very brute-force style of application. So this might not even stay.
Well, in a way I guess it’s a good thing. It may take a bit more time, but by splicing together bits from discarded maps that I do like, we’ll be able to form a cohesive whole of stuff that’s both fun and cool.
I’m in no rush.

As seeing the screenshot, no. It doesn't looks solid. Also you don't have to make it more fanicer in force. Just think freely and get the concept which decoration might fill the bill.
And i hope those red liquid don't explode right away after being shot!

i'm reminded of Torm's older maps, albeit with less excessive sector detailing
especially the one on last page

Old mapping wisdom:
- Pick aesthetics like narrative, concept, theme, and atmosphere rainstorm some concepts before you start thinking about the layout
- Draw out a rough idea on graph paper
- Make a very basic version of the map and look around in it
- don't worry about the details until after you have a solid map down and it plays the way you want to.
- add details/features in passes, rather than completing rooms one by one
- Don't worry about it looking amazing, it's doom, just make it look clean and complete
This looks good so far.
Your levels for this have reminded me vaguely of Strife, which had decent maps for the purpose you're using them, so as long as you one-up Strife, you're good.

A couple of my friends said it would be cool of being drunk had an actual in-game benefit, and if you could be drunk in the suit and use it while in levels.
So here you go. Each drink very slightly increases your speed, your melee damage, and your defenses.
Drink a lot and you become a melee berserker, at the cost of...well. You can guess.
Wait, isn’t today supposed to be a day for jokes? Well, uh. Oops. April Fool’s. Sorry, I completely forgot!

Re: On Cosmic Tides - Yar har, fiddle dee dee! [WIP]

So there's this new fancy language, right? It's called "ZScript". And I've been trying to learn it. Obviously you can't take a screenshot of code, so instead have a doodle of Silver drawn by Kurashiki. It is my most favorite thing in the world.
ZScript's been pretty interesting so far! With the complete lack of documentation, it's been a lot like those flash puzzle games where you have to use every single item in your inventory on every single interactive object in order to unlock the next room before you can get to the escape cutscene, but I really liked those games. Solving puzzles is fun.
While I'm still learning things, already what I've learned has been quite interesting. Being able to manipulate and modify pointers on the fly alone opens up a lot of options in terms of effecting enemies or the player. I can set an enemy on fire and deal a lingering DoT effect without actually changing the enemy at all! Or send them flying away on death on a projectile, as if it was carrying them away. Cool stuff.
In terms of Tides' codebase, it's already pretty damn hefty as it is, so simply porting it all to ZScript would probably take the better part of a month. Or a full month entirely. So I'm a little hesitant to jump right in bed with the wave of the future just yet.
But, well, it's inevitable. I'll probably start off simply, by making new actors in ZScript and then porting the old actors bits and pieces at a time…

Learn it well. It seems really works like zuper to you! Also i can feel the possibility with such scripts.

Redead-ITA: I think Terminus meant that taking a screenshot of code is extremely pointless.
