Extinction Event (Update)

Extinction Event is an upcoming megawad/total conversion for GzDoom.

It's designed to play like a so-called 'Metroidvania'-style game, where you're not just shooting your way through a linear set of maps, but where you're exploring a large world that gradually opens up after finding essential upgrades that permit survival in an increasingly hostile environment.

History
After having cut my teeth on a Vanilla Doom project (with some ZDoom additions) for a few years - pre-emptively titled 'Anomaly' - but growing increasingly frustrated with the restrictions this imposed on me - I decided to start from scratch as soon as my toolset allowed me to employ the full GzDoom featureset.
My mapping skills have improved tenfold since then, as well as my ambitions.

Hype
- Highly atmospheric, immersive and interactive environment
- Obsessive, OCD-levels of attention to detail
- Extensive use of every feature GzDoom has to offer
- Engaging, story-driven narrative, with individual NPC's, and use of cutscenes
- Plenty of secrets to find, including some retro game enthusiasts will find very amusing :)
- Focus on varied gameplay, with a balance between exploration and intense combat, featuring situations not seen in any wad you've played

I'm aiming to raise the bar here. Bold claim, sure, arrogant even. I welcome people who are willing to be a part of this. I'm particularly interested in people with better voice acting and writing skills than I have. I have a detailed design document, describing what the final product is going to be like. Feel free to let me know if you're intrigued and want to contribute.

Seems nice, but you should have used imgur to get some smaller images, I think.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Hi,

I just wanted to say I recently directed my attention to modding for Doom 3, which is better suited to my modding ambitions. I had a lot of fun making content for Doom.

Since I won't continue working on this version of the project anymore, it would be a shame to just ditch the effort I've invested in it. So here it is > http://www.mediafire.com/download/hhyli ... oomdev.pk7

It contains a bunch of maps, some scripting, rough concepts and other material you may find use for in your own project. Do with it whatever you like. If you use some of it, it'd be nice to let me know, just to see where you took it :)
