I've started allowing JS on Doomworld when they got spoiler boxes like here instead of the old quote box where you had to select the text to see it. The only downside was that it made reading a thread in Post Hell more annoying, but 1. I don't usually read Post Hell anyway and 2. it was solved easily enough by using adblock on the offending stuff.

The only thing that annoys me is the update news page that forces itself making me read "I ASS" when I start my browser.

You can disable that in the NoScript preferences, you know.

Do the filter lists contain Doomworld?

They can if you tell them to filter doomworld. Ad block lets you add your own custom filters. I have quite a few that get rid of things like the Facebook like counter on websites, the "share on social media" buttons on sites, I've been slowly adding every rickroll I find to the filter list, and a few websites I routinely visit have a lot of their images blocked so the background and other parts of the site are cleaner.

Also of note, I have an addon that let's me replace images and text with other images and text. Iirc it can also replace flash objects and things of that nature. Some sites have had their backgrounds replaced with a black image. Others just have words replaced, irregardless is now regardless. It is pretty flexible.

If the (expected) answer is 'no', you'll know why that approach is not sufficient. I have met my share of websites that use scripts inappropriately and prefer to decide for myself what gets through and what does not. Especially stuff like Facebook, Twitter and other 'Social' stuff is on my blacklist.

I also use the HOSTS file for stuff I don't trust at all, most importantly Google Analytics.

Graf, you may like AdGuard over AdBlock. It's lighter-weight, and much easier to configure. It also has built-in modules for blocking stuff like social sharing buttons and the like from appearing, whereas with AdBlock there's extra effort involved in picking the right filter lists.

Either way, ads and other content are blocked from the source; it doesn't need to contain Doomworld specifically. it just blocks the ad servers Doomworld pulls from so they never get loaded into the page, while other functionality should remain intact. .

Now, if you're worried about scripts hosted by Doomword itself, then that's where NoScript comes in. You can run it in conjunction with AdGuard (I do). The first level will be all the ads blocked by Adguard, so any scripts from those won't load. After that, NoScript blocks anything the page itself is still requesting, and then you can whitelist from there. Likely, Doomworld is only actually serving scripts for stuff like drop-down boxes and such, but you may see any 3rd-party domains spidering out to something like doubleclick.net or whatever. I usually leave those blocked unless there's some functionality I must have, and then I only enable them temporarily for that session.

Granted you probably already know all this, but just wanted to go over my usage model and how it works for me with what you seem to want.
