[r3008] 1600x900 video mode doesn't use the whole window

Post by Janizdreg »

The 1600x900 video mode seems to leave a small black bar to the bottom of the screen instead of using the whole window for drawing graphics. The bar seems to be roughly the size of a non-stretched status bar, but I dunno if it's actually related to the bar at all. The problem only seems to affect the regular first person gameview: automap, intermissions, title screen and so forth don't seem to be affected. The player weapon and HUD are also unaffected.

EDIT:

Lol, I could have reported this a couple months ago, but I completely forgot. Confirmed since 2.3.1, since Skulltag used to do this as well, but not anymore (albeit without ZDoom's Direct3D drawing the weapon sprites were drawn underneath this black bar.) Didn't even notice them fix it.

Using 2.5.0, I've not confirmed this. Hardware possibility?

Was using both an ATI 5750 HD, and later on, an integrated GeForce 9100, on Windows Vista SP2 (?) 64-bit.

Likewise. 1600x900 is the native monitor resolution and I don't see this problem in 2.5.0 or r3010. GeForce 9800 GTX+, Win7 64-bit.

Got an ATi Mobility Radeon HD4250, Windows 7 64-bit. Very odd.

Just noticed that the problem doesn't occur with GZDoom (1.5.6).

Really? Which version are you using, and which mode? The issue occurs for me with Skulltag 98d when I use the software mode. With OpenGL mode it works correctly though.

EDIT2:

2.2.0 seems to be the first official ZDoom version to produce the issue, with 2.1.7 and older 1600x900 looks fine.

Image

(image is from the duplicate bug report)
Also note that the other screenshot from above does the same thing, and in the same spot. I don't know if that means anything or not.

Heh didn't notice that. Maybe it is some sort of corrupt texture then?

Look at the first screenshot. The jagged edge (one pixel high) is in the exact same spot.

That just means that the lower left and lower right coordinates of the polygon the screen is rendered with are not identical.

Sorry I missed this topic for a while. Also, sorry I lied. Just double-checked with Skulltag 98d. I must have had illusions of grandeur while making that post. /:

Also, yes. Software renderer problem entirely.

I don't know if this perception has any value, but I just noticed that in versions 2.3.1 and lower the player weapon sprite is drawn under the black bar, where in turn versions 2.4.0 and newer draw the gun over the bar.

This is because there was a large change in how HUD graphics were drawn between 2.3.1 and 2.4.0, i.e. with Direct3D instead of DirectDraw.

Sorry, it's fine for me on Windows 7 x64 with a Radeon HD 6870 and Catalyst 11.5. Short of having your system in front of me, there's not much I can do aside from asking blind questions like these:
  • Is this fullscreen or in a window?
  • Does it make a difference whether you run in fullscreen or a window?
  • Are you using an LCD panel with a native resolution of 1600x900?
  • Does every other available resolution work fine?
  • What difference does setting vid_hw2d to 0 make?
