Is Foreverhood dead?

Post by Alice Jameson »

I was just wondering if the Foreverhood project is dead. I haven't seen any news about it in a bout a year or so. I would have tried to PM the author (skadoomer) but he doesn't receive pm's. Does anyone know anything about this?

good point, with modern day decorate and ACS this could be the greatest doom engine game ever!

Yes, it's as good as dead. Skadoomer hasn't been seen 'round here for a while, and apparently F2 has been canceled. Brian seems to have moved to other projects.

Wow, he's moved on and it looks like he's really good at modeling!

Yeah, I've got him on Facebook, and he occasionally puts up images of things he's working on at school or otherwise.

Why did this happen? It felt so promising... :(

Perhaps he was simply bored of it?

Perhaps the lack of interest was putting him off? I've noticed with Mega Man Deathmatch a lot of people hear "Doom Engine" and they think back to not having mouselook at what not and cringe at the thought, so they turn their nose up on it without giving it (and ZDoom/skulltag) a chance. I can see how that could put you off trying to make a full fledged game in the ZDoom engine, especially if you have to download them separately. A lot of people hate having to download and install different things. One of the biggest complaints with MM8BDM is the default controls, which I have no control over!

Or maybe not, who knows. I thought foreverhood was really something else, if not the most artistic project for Doom thus far.

How about shipping it with a custom zdoom.ini? It'll be used as the base for creating the zdoom-user.ini, IIRC.

The original edit which tagged it as "canceled" was put in with the reason "in case it's actually canceled, it's not "in-development" any more". I don't doubt it's dead though, but doesn't it seem like someone jumped the gun?

Nah, the original edit was that, what you're referring to was some cleanup work done later by somebody else.

So it's most likely dead. That really sucks. That was a project I was really looking forward to. It's a shame it's not being worked on anymore.

Really? What happens if there's both a zdoom (skulltag in this case) in file and a zdoom-user.ini? Which takes priority?

The -user, obviously, since it's already created and the other just serves as a template to create it.

I loved foreverhood. I cried a little bit when it was cancelled.
