Just found out that
Opus is god damn great.
Best part is found right here:
Opus is a totally open, royalty-free, highly versatile audio codec.
It would be great if support was added for it. Because honestly,
it beats Vorbis to the ground (76kbps Vorbis, matching Opus bitrate). And Vorbis ought to beat MP3 (nothx, rly) already.
Though "space is no concern these days" counts, it'd still help reduce music bloat. (Funnily enough big opus files, like music, are still compressible. So that's cool too.)
Have some random examples.
If you wonder what I mean by "Fake44Khz", then all I did was just resample the original doom sound without interpolating anything. (Which bypasses the forced resampling.)
tl;dr - This is delicious and I'm sure you guys would love it.
