I'm also really surprised by the engineers and physicists who work on redstone mechanisms. SethBling is computer engineer and cubehamster is Physics and Chemistry. It's nice to see people with real world application knowledge tinkering with this sort of stuff.

Barring that, PDF, you can also try out Tunngle, another VPN client much like Hamachi, one that Hellser would swear by.

There's also Game Ranger, if I'm not high up in the skies of fuzzy memory clouds.

I can vouch for Tunngle, which also has the distinct advantage that it's not "always on", so if you're security-minded you can just close Tunngle. You will, however, need to join a room, but it doesn't even matter which one, since it only matters that you and your co-players are in the same one. (My brother and I tend to occupy rooms for games that nobody plays, like nearly anything in the Sports category.)

I'm with Wildweasel for Tunngle, been using it for almost a year or two now. Older games such as StarCraft works flawlessly, and newer games such as Borderlands works as well (of which I had to use with a friend, unable to find each other online).
Also, Tunngle does support Private Networks (Community -> Networks -> Private Network), you only have to provide an Network name and password, and have your friend join.

Another vote for Tunngle. The only downside to the whole service is the installation process (you've got to register a username and go through several different screens to start using the program), but after that it works beautifully. I've completely ditched Hamachi in favor of Tunngle.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Mmmm well I would prefer to stick to Hamachi really...less hassle setting up other programs...
I THINK my Megadrive came earlier today but everyone (myself included) was at work, so the 2 packages (I'm assuming one is the console and the other one contains the games) couldn't be posted. This'll mean that it's at the Post Office...D;
That's all okay really because Mum will have to go get it (she bought it so the package would be in her name etc- So if it WAS what I've been waiting for I should have it tommorrow! ...only problem is no cable...But that isn't that big of a deal because I was going to order a proper high quality SCART cable for it on Ebay.
...but I have no Paypal monday.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
The issue with Hamachi is due to the 'hassle', Tunngle works regardless, and if it doesn't work with a specific game, there's options you can go with to make it work. Anyways, back on topic!
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
My issue with Hamachi is when it decides not to work, it goes all-out, and basically permanently breaks. I've had to reformat and reinstall Windows to get Hamachi working again a couple times. After that happens, if I was operator in a particular VPN I created, I lose that status because I can't get back in as that account anymore. Coupled with the 16-user limit on VPNs, it's just a headache dealing with Hamachi if you're unlucky enough to have it break on you.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Just gave those instructions a shot on Hamachi and was able to see servers but not actually connect. He couldn't connect to mine "connection refused" while I timed out connecting to his. We went to a server instead for a little bit. I'll also check out a few other options to see if they work better.

You both have to do it- also it's worth checking that your firewall has Minecraft allowed- if not tell it to. You also need to see if Java is on the inbound too~DoomRater wrote:Just gave those instructions a shot on Hamachi and was able to see servers but not actually connect.
