Spoiler:Edit: I also just ordered my first copy of Doom 3. Hooray! I got a boxed copy, mint sealed. I can't wait to get my hands on that box.
The Still New What Did You Last Do Thread

Finished my desktop background.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
I played Unreal Gold.
Taking another look at it I can see where some of the complaints about modern shooters being too linear are coming from.

.fb2kcomponent is Foobar2000's new plugin distribution format - from Foobar2000, go into Preferences, Components, then click "Install..." and find the .fb2kcomponent file on your hard drive. It should appear in the component list with a message saying "Click apply to update" or similar. Hit Apply, it'll probably ask you to restart Foobar2000, and when that happens the component will be installed.Viscra Maelstrom wrote:can someone explain to me how to install the MIDI plugin for foobar2000? the documentation isn't exactly helpful with the file i am receiving from the download (they say you get a .DLL file but i get a fb2kcomponent file i have fuck-all idea what to do with...)
If the Install window does not show you the .fb2kcomponent files, you may need to update Foobar2000.

And even that's a little linear compared to Quake 1 and Doom.Big C wrote:I played Unreal Gold.

Yay! Finished Q.U.B.E.! I'm hoping they make some add-on puzzles for it, because its mechanics were really quite fun.

On a Mass Effect marathon, currently. Finished the 2nd in 2 days. Started the 3rd this evening. I'm so goddamn thrilled by this franchise!
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Playing Freespace 1 right now, forgot how fun it was.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Playing ME2 myself ATM (well, whenever I get spare time - ie not often). It's the first one that I have played (though I've watched 1 being played). It's pretty and all, has an engaging story etc but, rather bizarrely I suppose, the game almost gets in the way for me.Remmirath wrote:On a Mass Effect marathon
From what I've seen so far, it is a series of long cutscenes and non-interactive sections joined together with mediocre gameplay. I am engaged enough with the story that all I would actually need is, between cutscenes, to make choices for what the central character would do and then watch how my decision impacted on the story (kind of like those old advanture books where you make different choices and turn to the relevant page to see how the story progresses as a result of your choice).
Like I said, rather bizarre.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
ME1 is more RPG-like gameplay-wise. What Bioware decided to do with ME2 and subsequently ME3 was to make gameplay more 3rd-person action oriented. While this might accomodate a larger share of the players, some might be disappointed. In my opinion, the mix wasn't that bad, and fights were decent enough to keep me going.
Some missions are quite repetitive on the gameplay side, though. It just felt like I was replaying the same thing over and over again (this was more evident in the first game).

This was also my impression of the game. Still enjoyed playing through Mass Effect 1 and 2, still need to get 3.Enjay wrote:the game almost gets in the way for me.

Might be a little late, but I just watched the 2012 version of Total Recall. This movie is visually stunning.

Would be awesome to see a cyberpunk-ish mod with the visuals and technology as portrayed in that movie!
