Thinking about learning some serious C++/etc.... I really hope I won't regret this.... I want to be able to sit down one day and make a game from scratch.... With a crapton of coffee.

I've started to write a game engine myself. From scratch, too. In C++ and using SDL.

It's kinda enjoyable since I will only be doing programming work and I'll let other people do the rest. :V

Hello zdoom, its been a while. Good too see people still alive. I remember like it was yesterday, creating the old przndoom account and making dumb-bull posts. I'm sorry making half-baked "promises" projects, meh kids gonna be kids. I had to quit doom, lost all my wads. Well its summer time, and finally able to relax! Reading the zdoom wiki and relearning Decorate, I kinda forgot how it works. I guess that's part of the "fun" in modding. I hope you guys are doing well and having a good summer so far.

I'm tempted to buy a tablet when I have money. I love the idea of manipulating a user interface with my fingers. But can you recommend something like iPad that doesn't necessarily come with walled-garden software policy (getting software only from a designated place), that's also keyboardless? I hate portable keyboards, they tend to break first. And I want to be able to share open-source software on it, and walled-garden is not good for experimenting that.

I'm tempted to use it as a PDF reader, web browser, and not least, for (graphic) design and CAD (hopefully including electronic schematic design and a Doom editor).

A tablet? Sure, I can suggest one.

A non-iPad tablet that isn't crap? You're on your own.

A non-iPad tablet with a Doom editor? That leaves you with just crappy Windows-based slates from China.

Well, it's good to know that iPads aren't crap, that they aren't tricking you.

As for Doom editor, if it doesn't exist, I guess I could make one. But then I'll have to submit it to Apple for review, so it can be distributed. Then, unless I have something else to cover my yearly App Store license fee, I'll have to charge it, probably not too much. Or give it away for free if I have something else for sale...

Or maybe I can distribute its source code as GPL with a README on how to compile it yourselves for your iPads? Maybe that's possible hahahah (maybe not). Too bad you'll need Macs in that case.
