not sure I can do it but I'll see.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
It's really fun to write some random shit.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Well, as a few of you know, I have been a supplemental instructor (basically, a tutor assigned to a particular class) for some developmental (read: before precalculus) math courses at my college, this semester. We had our final last week, and I just found out from the professor that half the class didn't pass...
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Or, as an optimist might say, "half the class passed".Ghastly_dragon wrote:I just found out from the professor that half the class didn't pass...
It's funny, after teaching for nearly 20 years I know that this is how many students look as pass/fails:
Pass: "Woohoo! I passed. Didn't I do well!"
Fail: "Boohoo! I failed. It's the teacher's fault."
Yup, teachers are only responsible for fails, not passes.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Ah, yeah, we went over attribution biases in my psychology course, a few years ago. Anything good that happens is because of the person in question, anything bad that happens is from external sources.Enjay wrote:Yup, teachers are only responsible for fails, not passes.
But yeah, I thought the average pass rate for a class was usually more than 50%. Unrelated note, one of the CS professors here wants to start teaching an Assembly Language course, but the only issue is whether or not a whole class would take it ('cause if we don't get a certain amount of people for a class, that class is cancelled). So I'm trying to get a petition to email to the guy who runs the CS curriculum to get it (because the choice of taking Assembly Language at the best community college in the state and a 4-year university, I'd definitely take it at the community college).
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
I guess it would depend on how the pass mark was decided. If it is based on the average then, with a normal distribution, you'd expect half to pass and half to fail. As one of our (probably not the brightest) politicians once said: It's terrible that 50% of students are falling below the average score.Ghastly_dragon wrote:But yeah, I thought the average pass rate for a class was usually more than 50%.
If it is set by some other method then the pass/fail ratio could well be quite different.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
I was waiting for two completely different, disassociated events to occur today. And, what are the odds, they happened at the same exact time, literally. The people from the apartment complex office knocked on the door to do a quick, annual apartment inspection. The instant I opened the door, the doorbell rang because the delivery man had arrived outside the apartment building with a package I was expecting that was scheduled to be delivered today.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Well, that's pretty cool.

Isn't that normal?Ghastly_dragon wrote:and I just found out from the professor that half the class didn't pass...

It's in the students' best interest to pass; It's mostly their fault if they fail.printz wrote:Isn't that normal?Ghastly_dragon wrote:and I just found out from the professor that half the class didn't pass...
Guys in my class think of me and another mate as naturally gifted mathematicians, just because we don't completely fail all the time.
A lot of people complain about maths, but I think most of them are just bullshitting and too lazy to sit down and learn it.
Obviously I don't know how high the requirements are in your college Ghastly, but take criticism with a grain of salt.

Today I played through Phocas Island 2 again. A lot shorter than what I remember. Probably because I knew what to do 50% of the time, heh
I also picked up RTC-3057 too, this was my first proper playthrough it. I played it a few years ago but I was horribly lost due to my unpolished english knowledge back then.

If I had time, I'd make a "reply" with a picture of a sea gull called Steven.MG_Man wrote:pictures
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Wait till I make an image of a berry with Chuck Norris on it.
Spoiler: actually, I'm too lazy for that
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
@MG_Man: Heh! When I saw the first image, I immediately thought "Deus Ex", then scrolled down...
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
I just got my desktop fixed today. It needs to stop dying.
