Dunno if this was because of me already using "Ugly as Sin", but if you are actually serious about this then I'd be more than willing to give up the name in service of the greater good.Matt wrote:Involve some kind of wordplay around ugliness or sin, but not actually using those words

Re: Some temporarily unnamed mod
I have to agree that this is a bit too reactionary, Ion Maiden is an upcoming indie darling with plenty of positive press, HD is, for quite a lot of people "that Doom mod that hates me and my entire bloodline."
I love Hideous Destructor just as it is and I would tell you to reconsider.
But if you REALLY have to you can just...I dunno, rename it "Hideous DestrucTION" perhaps?

Yup, checked out and there is. Sorry, my creative gears are not working at full capacity recently.Caligari87 wrote: (sidebar, Deathvoid is incredibly generic and I'd be shocked if there's not an actual copyright on it already. Sorry affandede.)

Re: Some temporarily unnamed mod
I have no serious concerns about legal liability so yeah, this is pretty reactionary though the thought of naming this mod something that isn't dependent on something that generates profit for the modern music industry crosses my mind frequently from time to time over the years.
I actually kinda like Deathvoid as a Doom mod name, at least under that specific rationale, because it meshes with a lot of the subliminal Christological imagery in Doom. The ambiguity between noun and adjective would play better in Freedoom.
At the end of the day, though, at this point I don't really expect this to go any further than the old botched attempt to rebrand this mode as "Vae Victis" many years ago (which apparently clashed with another well-known mapset that used a grammatically botched version of that saying).
EDIT: what about "Freedom Destructor" though

Re: Some temporarily unnamed mod
If we're going by the Ion/Iron rules that led to this problem in the first place, Freedom/Freedoom could count as a hazardous possibility.

I’m filing a patent infringement suit right now (the patent is on overreacting to things that don’t really apply to me)

Re: H.E.R.P.s & D.E.R.P.s
What was the last 2014 or 2015 build? Kinda want to try it out in Zandro and i may modify that if it doesn't run.
Re: H.E.R.P.s & D.E.R.P.s
Hideous Reality, maybe? Hideous Arms? I think keeping it similar to the original title would be good for recognition still.

Stay with Hideous Destructor. Be committed. Especially because of Fair Use and because this is a non-profit modification of Doom.
Re: H.E.R.P.s & D.E.R.P.s
Here's the last easily accessible version of HD that will run in Zandronum without modification. Dated near the end of 2014, it's unplayable (but functional, strictly speaking) online, I suspect because Zandronum's netcode can't, for whatever reason, handle all of the constant ACS calls for movement and turn inertia. It does run in singleplay with no problem.TDRR wrote:What was the last 2014 or 2015 build? Kinda want to try it out in Zandro and i may modify that if it doesn't run.
Here is a version of HD that will run online with other players with no issue and is completely playable in Zandronum. Dated mid 2012.
Good luck and god speed.

Re: Hideous Destructor
I'm adding that second link to the OP.
Re: name: again, it's not any actual legal concern here, it's more the principle of wanting to be totally independent of things connected to the recording industry. But given the overwhelming support for keeping the current name I'm going to take no further action on this besides changing the OP title back to "Hideous Destructor".

Re: Hideous Destructor
Name's been around for way too long now. Hard to imagine it being called anything else. Deep HD roots.
