I mean, it only took me 160 deaths to do E1M1 in one go. TOTALLY NOT HARD OR ANYTHING ROITE AHAHAHAHAH YEAH ROITE *walks away laughing hysterically, then breaking into silent sobs*

Yes, i'm gonna be doing saves. I'll try to cut back on save-scumming if I can, but who in their right minds would do a no-save run? Even in regular Doom you're supposed to save often.

Give me like.....till next friday before you finish hahaha, I didn't think you would be moving this fast eh? Damn, I might actually have to pay, but its worth it to see the attempts.

I've decided, just to be a jerk, you should do e1m9 as well =)

If it makes you feel better, you can turn on HD penetrate (does this even work on grimdark?)

Also, having 1000 + encumberance essentially means your fucked....id never exceed 900 as a maximum for combat. This means pick a couple guns, drop extra ammo, and take what you need, and stash the rest for later. An smg and a shotgun and a bit of ammo makes dodging much easier than carrying the kitchen sink... And having lower encumberance makes jump dodges more effective.

Question: Pretty much everything else in HD follows this rule, but, does the hd_penetrate thing go both ways? Like, if it were to be on, would enemy bullets also penetrate level geometry? Would make their suppressing fire behavior quite a bit more threatening.

The firefight at the beginning of E1M3 is a nightmare. Holy shit. You gotta cover your angles like crazy because you get swarmed so goddamn fast. Luckily, one of the demons got stuck in the doorway so I could just plink at him.
I'm only using pistol + shotgun + scoped ar. Nothing else. Keeps weight at decent levels and it kills stuff just fine. The chaingun in the E1M2 courtyard secret will keep your AR fed for at least 5 levels.
The imp cage with the switch is also ridiculous, but a single grenade does the job if you can lob it right.

It does....worst part is, its exactly as you say. Using a corner for cover is less effective this way, and can still kill you with piercing rounds. Thankfully 4.26 doesn't go far through cover, but SMGS go a bit further, and spider masterminds are particularly frightening.

Tbh, taking the vulcanette with is a good idea. Hardware isn't always plentiful like ammo, so miniguns, herps, derps, IED caps, rocket launchers ect are kinda important not to abandon.

Because of this, its best to stash guns say at the start, and take what you need... IED caps in particular are invaluable.

I already finished that firefight. Yes, it killed me a handful of times.

But it's fights like that, that made me very glad I opted for the Vulcanette, as bulky as it is.

Question. In Grimdark difficulty, is ammo capacity technically unlimited if you have a backpack?

That'd be fun and all, but... Nope. Rest in peace, sanity. Rest in pieces, as if that is true... all my runs will be going downhill. Hideous Destructor is my mainstay on Doom. That, and Complex Doom. I guess I'm a sucker for torture. ha.. ha...
