How about a picture of Rubber Johnny?
Jeez Cutman, look what you've done! You've gone and made the whole Zdoom community all ghouly and stuff!
Anyway, so yeah, GF3 = Most fuckin creepy thing I've played, even Sjas is scary again! Maybe it's just playing at 3:00 AM is a bad idea, but still...
Oh, and dead babies = awesome, though I have this other pic from a YTMND that's actually kinda scary... Look up "Clown Train" (IIRC) some time there, and there's a pretty fuckin creepy picture that should show up.
To sum it all up, I love Ghoul's Forest 3!

Hey now! I liked the gameplay. It's a fun little wad and a good challenge. After posting about the shock images, I thought that it was stupid of me to say I wouldn't play it anymore. I decided to open the wad file and just delete them rather than trouble you. I'm sorry if I caused you any frustration.
Don't let the criticism get to you. You have a fine wad here. :)

You've created the map you wanted to and its a cracker. You know it, so fukkit, be happy with it.
The only criticisms of the map have been to do with issues of personal taste - ie some people are complaining about things that they don't like, but not things that are actually wrong with the map. Well, tough for them, you'll never make something that everyone likes. As long as you are happy with it, then the WAD is fine. You've also made plenty of other people happy in the process and that's a bonus. Some people have quite happily "fixed" their version and are also enjoying playing it. That's fine too. Would you really want to water it down or alter your vision just to get a few more people giving it the thumbs up? Be proud of what you've done and just accept that people whinge and whine a lot louder than those who don't and, whatever you do, don't take this kind of criticism to heart.
And I like the new trees.

Mike brings up a very good point, however, and one that's been bothering me since KDiZD came out.
I understand the usefulness of a site or publication that reviews commercial games -- I would be pretty upset if I spent $50-60 on a game that sounded cool but turns out to be absolute shit; therefore it's helpful to be able to get a 3rd-party review of the software before I make my purchase.
However, as more and more people get fed up with the often subjective and insulting reviews, many of which start flame wars between people who like what was released and those who, more often than not, have some personal grudge with one of the work's authors, I'm starting to think maybe we don't need a review source for what is essentially free content being created by and for an open community. So what if you didn't like the ghouls, or the trees, or some of the pictures? Cutty is not asking you to spend any money on his work; he merely created it because it was something that interests him and others in the community. He did so in his free time, and with the help of other people who wanted to offer their time and expertise, again not asking for anything in return. If you don't like it, then don't play it. There's no need to come here and whine about how this or that sucks, or isn't scary, or to create a review that rips it apart for not being "original". Who's benefiting from these comments?
Personally, if I were Cutty I too would be discouraged from sharing my work in the future with such an ungrateful community. If you want to give helpful insight or offer to assist in one area or another, that's great. If all you want to do is complain about how it doesn't fit your particular taste, did you ever stop to consider that no one asked for your opinion in the first place? Perhaps it's better to keep it to yourself and find something else more to your liking.
And that's my 2 cents.

So in other words, you'd prefer constructive criticism, right?HotWax wrote:Mike brings up a very good point, however, and one that's been bothering me since KDiZD came out.

If you do this type of thing long enough, you have to accept the innevitable realization that anything outside the main stream interest, things typically classified as 'niche', are immediatly going to be criticized and complained about. Doesn't matter what amount of work went into it, what accomplishments were made, or what lengths the author(s) went to avoid being called trite, it will be looked down upon by perhaps the majority. You do one of two generalizations: give up and conform, or give them a british salute and do what you can to indirectly piss them off (Bittersweet). It's part of the reason I won't work in that industry anymore.HotWax wrote:Cutty is not asking you to spend any money on his work; he merely created it because it was something that interests him and others in the community.

Point #2. Personally, I haven't made most of my projects public for over a year now. I've taken a middle ground, continuing my works, but I won't give fuel for those wanting to goad others into flame wars.
[EDIT] Returning to under my rock now.
