It would have been better if they made it so it was like the Skyrim, where you only executed a killmove when its the last enemy around.

As for the game, I'm just going to wait to see what its like. It can't be worse than Doom 3, which I found to be just Half Life with better graphics. As for the Killmoves, I'm rather neutral about it if they have it like I mentioned above. I'm pretty sure they aren't marketing this game solely for us 90s Doom Fans, and are shooing for a more recent crowd. Hate to say it, but our tastes are outdated, just like the way we found our parents tastes. Just get used it it.

Hah. Please. Has nothing to do with taste. Nobody gives a shit anymore and wants flashy garbage. That doesn't mean they have taste. These people don't give a fuck. They'll play DOOM one day, finish it, call it "worth the money" and who really cares about the rest? They're not gamers. They don't give a fuck. They have no taste.

I'm sorry, but no. This attitude sickens me the most, and thats why I'm so aggressive against new games. They're the McDonalds of games. I sure do enjoy McDonald, but I'm a moron when it comes to food and eat shit all the time.

DOOM isn't for people with a different taste. Its for people with no taste. Just like most of modern gaming. I really wish this mentality caught on. The day master chefs would be going around saying McDonalds is the shit, I'd say cooking is fucking doomed.

the glory kills situation would be salvagable with just two things
1: the single mod for the chainsaw better make it work like it used to
2: staggered enemies the game wants you to contextually execute are dispatched with just a few chaingun bullets/ one shotgun blast

also is the ammo pool still really small? is there atleast a backpack?

Your opinion is your opinion, not everybody else's. If you can't accept that other people have different preferences, then kindly keep your aggressive words to yourself, please.

it seems strange to release such cutified versions of Doom characters as these bobble head figures. i mean, the contrast between the content of the trailer and the figures are astounding. :p

I think executions will be fine. They appear to optional, and performed on an enemy that is already 'dead' (think Mortal Kombat fatalities), so they don't help you actually defeat the enemy. I dig that getting health is a function of more aggression and not less like most shooters today.

My main problem is the glowing highlight that pulses over the enemy to signify when execution is possible. I don't like how this looks and hopefully this can be turned off (or modded out). I get why they're there - I assume the changing colours trigger different executions - but I'm confident I'd rather be surprised and not have the gaudy HUD indicator.

As with most aspects of Doom 4: it'll all depend how it feels once we get our hands on it.

First of all, chill out. We're talking about video games here, not war or something.

Second, this is no cash-grab game. Call of Duty, Halo, and sports games among a few others have yearly releases made simply to be yearly releases and not... well... actual new games. This, on the other hand, is a reboot of a game that hasn't had a main release in almost 12 years, and makes an actual attempt (they ARE trying, believe it or not) to bring the gameplay back to its roots, just with a slightly modern twist. Say what you like about the game itself, but if you think this is just meant to be a "McDonald's," so to speak, you're mistaken.

What I understand about the "Glory Kills" from posts and discussion in /r/Doom:
  • Melee glory kills optional. Provide extra health/ammo bonuses. Can only be performed on nearly-dead enemies. No firm word if game difficulty is balanced around glory kills or of they're just "bonus" for tight spots (I believe it's the latter though).
  • Chainsaw insta-kills most enemies regardless of current health, some might need several hits (maybe). Runs on fuel (ammo), each kill takes up some. Might provide bonus ammo/health but I can't recall... Don't think so.
  • Both: Possible (?) player is untargeted/invincible during animation lock? Kills take 0.25 seconds to 1.5 seconds max (not 5+ seconds as most people seem to be claiming). Different kills executed depending on which part of the enemy you're looking at (arm, torso, head, leg, etc). Almost a dozen different variations per enemy type (maybe).
Personally, I don't mind the glory kills/chainsaw mechanics. Already the chainsaw in vanilla "locks" you into the target when it hits, and seriously, when was the last time you only partially chainsawed something instead of just tanking it anyway? This sounds faster than vanilla, really. The main thing I'm unsure about is whether difficulty is balanced around melee glory kills, but I don't think it will be. Id seems to be invested in letting people play how they want with upgrades, no weapon limits, lots of mobility, etc.

People buying new FPSes didn't have their perception of what an FPS "should be like" shaped by Doom or Quake. They had it shaped by Halo and CoD. That's just something you're going to have to accept. You sound akin to the old men that brag how their 50s Carborator-driven, gas-gozzling, muscle car is "far better" than anything made today when there are Lamborghinis around. Nostalgia is nostalgia, so keep that in perspective. The original Doom is obsolete in terms of appearance, and even in some aspects of gameplay. We wouldn't be using Zdoom if we didn't feel the original was lacking in something.

I'm not going to argue that doing random finishing moves in the middle of battle isn't silly, because it is, and takes away a lot of the bleak seriousness of the original game away. But we've seen how over emphasizing the dark survival horror of doom got us with Doom 3; a massive disappointment of awesome graphics and atmosphere with the most mundane scripted gameplay.

I am worried that DOOM 2016 will be very sort. I hope the stuff they showed in the videos isn't all their is, with only 3 levels (or a bunch of tiny ones) where there is a techbase, a infested techbase, and then Hell, and that's it.

I don't know about you guys, but I really cannot judge the singleplayer at this point.
All footage ever released of it was played on babby difficulty with a controller.

Which is baffling because watching someone play a game very well is an attraction in the vidya industry.

but since when have the ones responsible for how the doom4 marketing was done ever made a bad decision

I can see why visually console play is more appealing; it has lots of still shots where the joystick is in a deadzone, turns and looks are smooth and consistent, low-speed cinematic pans are easy just by nudging the stick a little... It looks really nice when a skilled player is doing it.

On the other hand a mouse is far more precise, but videos of highly-skilled mouse play are often jerky and flicky, players constantly spinning 180s, adjusting, odd jittering if you need to pick up and move the mouse... It's just not as pretty if you're trying to show off how cool the game looks.

Sure you could get around this by lowering the sensitivity and adding a ton of filtering/smoothing/inertia to the mouse, (see Minecraft's "Cinematic" mode) but maybe they decided that's not worth the trouble when a huge portion of the target audience is console players anyway.

I actually really loved playing Minecraft with that enabled for a really long time. For some reason, making the mouse movement feel heavier helped the overall feel of movement a lot more.

IIRC, Hideous Destructor does that sort of thing with heavier weapons, though it also simulates their length and causes you to bounce on walls if your rotation will cause you not to fit.
