There are some great hub-based mods in there too, but they're GOOD mods. Off the top of my head... Scourge of Viscerus, or World of Zoweseandek. Both very good.

There's also a few good ones that I feel I wouldn't even need to mention, as they're so popular (with good reason). Of course, one or tow of 'em have aged a bit over the years, which is why I took it upon myself to develop an unofficial revamped edition for one of my favorites. But, I'm getting off track there. =/

Hexen mods are so few and far between that naming them won't wear out their names anytime soon, so lay it on us! Do you mean Wolfen as well?

We should pick up these long forgotten HeXen levels out there and put in a pk3 and make a megawad :P

Yep, that's the one! X3

There's also one or two that I didn't consider to be quite as fantastic as the others, but still worthy of mention. Let's see... Necrosis, and The Nadir, just to name a couple. I probably could've come up with a few more names, but I'm running on very poor sleep right now. =P

There's Chuxen, which I remember more of than vanilla Hexen.

I think that speaks volumes, really.

totally getting the whole "wanna love it but can't."

it seems to me that for a doomer, hexen's puzzles are too complicated and its combat too boring. but thats why its heXen and not DooM...

I LOVED heretic so, although its been years since I played heXen, I'll probably play it on the corvus to hexen mod... just love the idea of being a sidhe elf in the hexen universe as the weapons fit so tastily...

It's not that they were too complicated. The problem with the puzzles was twofold.

They were unrewarding, and they were vague.
"One third of the puzzle was solved in the Seven Portals."
Who would ever get any satisfaction from this? It's so abstract and disconnected from everything it hurts. Especially when there's no real visible reward. You pulled a switch and it did something. Hooray.
That's also the issue on the other front. It's not really a puzzle if there's nothing really *there*. A puzzle from obscurity is not a puzzle. It's a switch/item hunt that's even more of a pain in the ass than usual.

I said it was a "scavenger hunt" earlier.

Hexen II's worse. In fact it's a design I want to fix and avoid. Hoping to brutalize/hexen2ercise when I get around to it.

[various comments I agree with]
And it was just such a long trip between each of those thirds that I could never count that high to figure out when I was near finished, just because I couldn't remember that many!

Oh hell yes please do. (And agreed re: worse - couldn't even get past level 2 before I gave up)

am i the only one who actually liked deathkings
okay granted ive only ever played it with hexercise but still
you can get all the weapons in the first hub and the maps are way more self-contained than standard hexen (which gets a hell of a lot better itself once you get out of the seven portals)

but yeah play with hexercise its a lot more fun esp. since the centaurs arent so block-happy
its also fun to play with xaser's psychic
there are other doom mods that feature hexen compatability too but i cant really think of any at the moment WHY DO I INSIST ON POSTING WHEN IM THIS TIRED

I still found some switchhunts in there annoying, plus I think there might be a puzzle that doesn't work with Samsara- the item in the well. I'd have to double check if anything was done about it, or can be done about it.
