Thanks for good words. Yes, I think about brightmaps, but know I'm focused on textures.
Here is rough version of DOORTRAK and STEP6.

Step6 - I really don't know what this texture was supposed to be. I decide to mix plastic with rubber scratches.

And another riddle. Does anyone have any idea what is this if it's not just a photo of a rubble on the floor?

That's an interesting DOORTRAK.

As for Step6, this old thing of mine sums it up somewhat:

I really think these textures are amazing, but using them against vanilla map, at such a high resolution, you start to really see how flat the scene is. It's like... everything is too pristine and clean, something which the pixelated look managed to "hide" (it makes things look grittier)...

I think these textures are best used in custom maps that really utilize lighting effects (either via sector lighting or dynamic lights).

Still, amazing job on these textures!

EDIT: Minor nitpick, the broken glass detail in the lower left corner of STARGR2 kinda looks cheap and unbelievable... seems like it was just pasted onto the texture. Almost looks cartoony too.

I like the doortrack - it actually looks like it is a doortrack and is a fair guess at what the original texture might actually be meant to look like. However, it is clearly designed to be shown as a single or double instance of itself. Unfortunately, people use doortrack for all sorts of things and on all sorts of lengths of wall. Even if it is just being used as a door track, this could easily be virtually any width from 4 to 64 and more. I don't know how you could manage it but something that would tile well regardless of the length or wall it was placed on might make a more universally acceptable replacement texture.

I actually think that it is a magnified picture of some sort of crystalline rock or something. :?

It doesn't help that some of them are much more flat than their original counterparts, like BROWN1, and to some degree COMPUTE2.

Edit: OH WAIT WHAT IS THIS

I have to agree with Enjay on this, while the doortrack looks really good, you may want to make it look more so like the original as it will be used in several different maps in the past for several different things, where bits and pieces of it are made into something other than just a door track.

Good to hear you may be creating brightmap versions at a later date!

I don't know what do you mean about brown1. To me this texture (original) is just a flat wall with stains and some bumps in the upper part. what exactly should I change? Remember I want to make this textures similar to original as is possible in hires (some changes in this kind of resolution are inevitable).

And about texture I'm mentioned above - for me is just a photo of rubble like this one:

I think he's trying to tell you he made improvements to your BROWN1. I compared it to yours and it seems he made It grittier with improved coloring.

To be fair, that does have the right kind of feel - much more so than the current image used in hi-res packs anyway.

I am sure that I read somewhere that the original texture is a magnified image of crystals (as is one of the other textures I think - ROCK4/5? (and of course ROCKRED*)). You can also see that there has been some editing done to the original texture because some of the crystals/rocks repeat across the image.

Yes, I noticed this. And the image I paste is not my texture, I just paste it as an example. I still think this is just photo of rubbler, edited and recolored, but in hires this kind of stuff look very strange.

SP_ROCK1 is based on an actual photo of some kind of mineral. Someone once posted the original somewhere, but I can't seem to find it (it's not the image posted on Newdoom that comes up in a Google search).

(This isn't the only such texture in Doom - SKY1 is also based on a photo, for example.)

Ok, this will be helpfull in work on hires version.

Here is complblue which I'm make for comptile texture. Any criticism is really recomended.

I come to two conclusions. Either carpet or that rubber flooring like.. thing. I really cannot explain it, I don't even know it's technical name for it, but it looks like this.

From what I gathered on Google, it's called "Rubber Flooring".. The texture, best I can explain, is, well, it's rubber. Like.. rubber that's been minced, thrown into a batch of glue, spread out into a fine sheet, remaining glue been drained out (leaving little 'holes', no more than a tac-nail) and then layed out on a floor. If you ever walked on one of these things, it's quite fun. For something like the UAC, I can see them using 'recycled tires' for their floors.

Ok, I'll try two versions - rubber and carpet and we see which one looks better. What about left and right side of comptile? Is it plastic or metal? This one look very smooth, so maybe some kind of plastic like this one from computer keyboards?

comptile I always presumed to be a really, really advanced, smooth plastic.
