I was wondering about Hectic/Frantic; was this part of the original PSX Doom? & Why use it? Like a bonus level that doesn't fit in there since it already was in Doom64 [with some nuances].

I like your Doom3 references here and there (Hell entrance is somewhat similar, the pillar, a bit further, is also taken from that...)

Maybe the most fun wad I played this year; and what a great year it was. I simply cannot stop. the feeling of the maps has that something Doom64ish that gets me. The progressivity makes it wonderful; Excellent gameplay ... ... ...

Your goal is fully achieved. For me. No wait. Does this Threshold Of Pain really needs to end so early
I would have thought the ENDPIC was a big enough clue ;)

Regarding Frantic, why not? You'll notice that the yellow key room is a very strong reference to one of the more annoying bits of one of PSX Doom's secret levels. There's no harm in a bit of reference. Besides, PSX Doom didn't have Nightmare Imps, either. I think you may have missed the joke there :P

I just couldn't resist throwing a few D3 references in there, too. There's a nod towards the Guardian arena in MAP09 also.

Regards the length, there's a decent four hours of game in there and there's only so much one guy can do in a year :P Glad you enjoyed it all the same and, YES, THERE WILL BE A THRESHOLD II. Can't say when that will see the light of day, but it WILL happen.

Added a "lite" version to the first post for anyone daunted by the 41MB file size. Be warned though, the 7MB stripped-out version has no music at all.

New version uploaded with a number of fixes. This will be the final version:

- Fixed a number of reverb leaks in the maps (particularly in MAP02)
- The Hectebi are now more aggressive and should attack on sight
- Added INTD's awesome centred Unmaker. The wad is now complete, visually at least ;)

Links to the full and lite versions are in the first post as always.

I think the Nightmare Cacodemons could use some tweaking. They're really difficult when there's more than two of them and it's even more frustrating if you don't have a plasma gun or a BFG.

They can be a pain in the arse, yes. This is why they're used relatively sparingly throughout and mainly in open spaces. The chaingun and minigun are pretty effective at pinning them down in the absence of an energy weapon.

Last ever round of fixes (I mean it this time). I've taken this WAD pretty much as far as I can, so this will be the lot for now.

Revenants. I hate them. I HATE THEM. And you put them in the worst/best possible places. You mean mean person you.
(Kudos!)

Since you seem to really annihilate any bugs that are left in this mod, I have a suggestion. The Unmaker's firing sound is a bit unfitting compared to the PSX Doom audio. Perhaps you could take the beginning of the PSX Doom gibbing sound and use it as the Unmaker's firing sound?

I think the point of "FINAL VERSION" is that he's not going to change anything more. (Unless there's a debilitating, game-breaking bug.)

You can always drop that sound into a mod and load it on top if you like it better.

Don't worry, I'm on it!

I know I've been a bit slow off the mark here (sorry), but if you can't wait another 10 minutes or so there's a version available on /idgames. Not sure if it's up to date, though.

EDIT: Sorted, see first post.
