Penguinator wrote:Bah, I'm with Caz and Tribeam on this. Even though the effect was perhaps possible way before they showed it off, they are the ones came up with it. If it has been possible for so long, why didn't we see this years ago? Oh, because no-one thought of it. They did.

Now everyone please credit me because I was the one who added the missing additive line information to the wiki in 2004. If I didn't put it there, you guys probably wouldn't even know it exists!

Also, there are people who don't release every single thing they create. You won't know for sure if the thing has been in fact experimented for years on my hard disk but never released in screenshot form or WAD form because I simply can't be bothered.
Re: [RELEASE] Fake Volumetric Lighting in Doom!
Wow Nash why did you post that?
Tribeam's post was the QED of the argument.
Also: Posting "Hey you know I don't even show you all the cool shit I have done and can do" makes you sound like a real dick, btw

Just wanted to mention that I did such an effect already in UTNT, just as a reminder

...or TSoZD...

Re: [RELEASE] Fake Volumetric Lighting in Doom!
I dunno... all of this over one effect? I can honestly say I'm dissappointed with the community. As with all special effects, it was just a case of creativity and taking the time on it. I can almost garauntee most of the special elements I've thought of in my wads won't get used because they require too much effort or require just the right mind-set. Same reason why only cutty makes proper platformers... it's a lot of effort to think of new things, and when you do think of some special gameplay element, or some awesome new effect, it's limited use anyway because 99% of the time people are just making a map for Doom.

QFT, but I gotta admit I have got my fair share of attention for my gimmick wads. It still shocks me that people are STILL playing Ghoul stuff, and are even playing wads I haven't finished yet (ghouls vs humans).Phobus wrote:Same reason why only cutty makes proper platformers... it's a lot of effort to think of new things, and when you do think of some special gameplay element, or some awesome new effect, it's limited use anyway because 99% of the time people are just making a map for Doom.

Shut up and finish your platform walljumper!

*EDIT*
I just had an idea... why not make a complete community project of platform maps Cutman style? ...
I mean... that would definitely be lots of fun
Easy to map and hundreds of possibilites...

Re: [RELEASE] Fake Volumetric Lighting in Doom!
Hmm I 'spose, but first I'd want to make a base jumping system, maybe with the wall jumping, to be used with all maps. Like different jumps and stuff.
Re: [RELEASE] Fake Volumetric Lighting in Doom!
Excuse me, but I'm pretty sure I'm the first person who ever used a translucent texture to create a coloured lighting effect (over 10 years ago, quite possibly before ZDoom even existed), so all credit to me plz
.
Proof (see "Colored Lighting In Boom" at the bottom of the page).

That's quite mongy.Layers of planes to create a shaft is not a new technique long before this.Caz wrote:You seem to have forgotten to credit where you and Cpt. Toenail learned this from.
I've done it to make grass from the floor for example (no not in doom)
People who demand credits for this simple well known 3d trick are greedy kids with an ego problem
