I'll invest my time in it when I have my girlfriend at my side, not before.

Yeah this is not for me. It seems like a good kid's show though.

Ok.. watched Ep1. I think this cartoon has exactly one thing over its competition -- actual animation quality. Much of the cartoons on TV today have horrendous character design backed by some of the worst animation I have ever seen in any animated medium. Outside of that though, I can't see much appeal in the series. It's funny at some bits, but other than that it's just a bunch of ponies all playing the various human stereotypes that exist, with an element of some magic and all of that.

So, I hold my current opinion that people are just taking it too seriously. It's a decent cartoon but it's nothing to get overly obsessed with, in my eyes.

Watch more episodes to modify your opinion. Most people I talk to say the first couple episodes aren't enough to judge by.

(Don't get me wrong, some people ARE taking it far too seriously, but that's a thing most TV show fanbases suffer from.)

These have to be my favorites, simply because they're far from what you'd normally expect from such a show:

Episode 4 - Carries a good moral message, with the main character's consistently stubborn personality resulting in highly amusing consequences. (See avatar.)
Episode 9 - Quite a bizarre episode but pretty amusing all throughout, and introduces a mysterious new character. Also has some subtle "don't be a racist" undertones (some argue, anyway).
Episode 13 - Focuses on the hilarious (and often quite violent) physical competition between the two most athletic characters.
Episode 19 - Possibly the funniest one I've watched, purely for the new characters that come along. This revolves around the kidnapping of one of the ponies, whose escape plan is just brilliant.

It's a cute show, granted. But I can see how people can get obsessed over it in a way.

However, it is good for its reaction pictures. Like..

As far as I know, and according to my resources. This ALL started on 4chan. What's next, they're going to take down companies with ponies?

Yeah well, I watch Cartoon Network for very long time, I pretty much know the cool things I want and expect from cartoons.

Never seen an episode. I'm not much of a TV person. I do enjoy cartoons though (mostly stubbornly cling to ones from my childhood) and certainly the people behind My Little Pony have a proven track record, so I can imagine it lives up to a lot of what the fans enjoy about it.

In any case... some in the hate crowd needs to relax a little.
C.S. Lewis wrote:Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.
Enjoy things because you find them enjoyable. And when you don't, it's nice to step aside and let those that do, to.

I thought Invader Zim had a nice start, but the fanbase completely ruined it. All anybody seemed to like about it was "LOL Gir is so random!!" and after a few years the show changed to cater more and more to these people.

I wouldn't be surprised if MLP went the same way.

Now THAT I can agree with. Invader Zim was a fairly well-balanced show until its episodes started devoting more time to Gir's brain-dead clowning.

Gir is funny in moderation, but he's not the reason Invader Zim was a good show. And if you like Invader Zim because of Gir, well, you didn't like the show for what was good about it.

Out of curiosity I decided to give this a chance and see what the fuzz is about.

And I saw a "pony" riding a cow. :?

All in all it doesnt look that bad, and it certainly is peculiar enough for me to try to watch (whenever i have the time) a whole episode, two or 10, who knows.

So a bunch of friends from another forum got me into a Synchtube room, and threw the first episode of this into the playlist. Okay, it's not bad, I'd be able to tolerate it if I were to have to watch it with my nieces and nephew, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to watch it myself - not when I've still got over 75% of my DVD collection that I haven't even taken out of its cases yet.

I know how you feel, except that instead of movies, it's my console game collection. I have so many damn console games (past and present) that I bought, but still haven't thoroughly played yet. I mean, I do get through some of it, but it's still not enough.
