Here's a new video of Aestus, showing the Primary and Secondary Fire, and how the sprites look in game. Check it out!

The snap and firing up animation is magnificent. The secondary is great too, finally a proper, badass fireball spell in Hexen! As a possible tertiary, you may consider a firewall like effect, similar to Heretic II: A wave/wall of flame traveling forwards and going through monsters.
I agree with him, the explosion looks cool but it could be a few tics longer just for effect.Lagi wrote:fantastic.

Thanks for the comments!Linz wrote:Man it's looking good so far

Yeah, I probably need to tweak the length of the rolling meteors explosion as you say. I thought the same after watching the video myself. I'd also like it to drop more fire as it rolls along and have it not jump up ledges (lol).
Interestingly, the tertiary mode was indeed going to be either a fire wall or fire lance. I was just fiddling with various ideas and none of them have clicked yet so we'll see.

Re: Hexen: Walpurgis 0.91 (For Doom/Heretic/Hexen)
Here's the weekend update; got myself a titlemusic set up, and also got around to updating the player walk sprites!

Baratus is now wearing black lamellar and wielding the axe by default, rather than being a Conan reject with a mystery plain sword.
Parias gained a rosary and his shield, of course, as well as a slightly brighter blue cape.
Daedolon had a proper mage collar added, had his pendant changed to silver, and is now wielding the Agnus Abyssus rather than a generic purple staff.
Illitheya had a general quality improvement across the board to make her less janky looking.

Re: Hexen: Walpurgis 0.91 (For Doom/Heretic/Hexen)
Well originally I was going for a Firewall or lance of some description for Aestus, but now I appear to have sprited something off topic whilst thinking how to do it:

Mostly to see if I could, lol.
So Flame Whip seems to be a go!
Well... assuming I'm happy with the resulting sprites when they're done anyway. What do you all think of this frame?

modernising of Baratus look, but putting him into slimfit boxer and t-shirt, to not offened modern audience is ... a cancer.
Baratus is a conan

=============
Parias look better in red. Also his shield is too bright (and have black coutour, which is not part of graphic estethics of any vanilla sprites)

Its just I always thought it was incorrect that he's supposed to be legionary, a soldier, not a barbarian chieftain. Even in vanilla Hexen, it doesn't make sense really.
So he got a similar treatment to Zedek, and got his roman muscle leather plate, that's all. This was my intent from the start; he is called the Myrmidon, after all, which is very Greco-Roman, and I'll be giving him a pair of gladius as an alternate weapon; which I was going to share later but I guess we can do it now:

He's apparently blue by default; and its fitting to have a Red, Green and Blue set (with Daedolon, Illitheya and Parias) but I see what you mean about the shield; might tweak that.Lagi wrote:Parias look better in red. Re: Hexen: Walpurgis 0.91 (For Doom/Heretic/Hexen)
A flame whip would be an interesting, unusual idea. It can work as a long-melee attack dealing reasonable AOE damage in a cone, but leaving Daedolon slightly exposed due to its range.
The remade spirits are badass! Baratus looks especially cool - as someone else pointed out, he was modeled to be more like Conan, or an archetypal barbarian, but that doesn't exactly fit his status as a legionnaire. Besides, being realistic, wearing no armor is the worst thing he could do during a demonic invasion - the closest chaos serpent could easily gore him without even trying.
The dual swords for Baratus also look really cool, and they seem like they'll be a delight to use!

Yup, in retropsect, the effect will be similar to a lance anyway.SallazarSpellcaster wrote:A flame whip would be an interesting, unusual idea. It can work as a long-melee attack dealing reasonable AOE damage in a cone, but leaving Daedolon slightly exposed due to its range.
I mean, I'm not ~too~ worried about realism either. Baratus is faster than Doomguy in Walp, so that means he's running more than 40 mph.SallazarSpellcaster wrote:The remade spirits are badass! They don't have a smidge of programming yet so I can't say (haha) but yeah the first few sprites have potential.SallazarSpellcaster wrote:The dual swords for Baratus also look really cool, and they seem like they'll be a delight to use!
