THANK GOD.

So your gpu or drivers are broken, it plays well over my amd hd8870m, and I can even use Windows dvr for recording itNevander wrote:I know you're trying to help, but the thing is any of the obvious stuff like that I've already done. It's just getting tiring hearing the same generic "update drivers" reply. The drivers may actually be the problem, and AMD is too incompetent to fix it in a timely manner. Did you know that the current AMD drivers can't even capture gameplay on DOOM using something like FRAPS? It records audio but just a static image. Unacceptable. I can't wait to switch to Nvidia soon with the 1070.Inchworm wrote:Did you tinker with any control panels or other settings before this became a recurring problem? DOOM also has its own set of GPU drivers, so installing the latest version might help if you haven't done it already.

Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
Don't despair completely! I manged to get it working on an i3 and a GTX460. Granted, I also had to run in 720p, all settings on low, and resolution scale at 50% (basically making it 640x360) to even get an unstable 40FPS, but it worked! And it's a blast! I imagine if I used command line options or config files to force the resolution even lower I could get a consistent 60FPS at original Doom resolutions.wildweasel wrote:(Sadly, this does me no good whatsoever, because my machine is absolutely not going to run it.)

Yeah if you have not tried running the demo yet by all means please try. I was certain my old machine wouldn't run it and it booted and played quite adequately.

Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
it runs at a very stable 60FPS most of the time here, some areas dipping a bit into lower ranges (one particular area in the Argent Facility comes to mind), but overall the experience was very playable. then again, i have an i5 and a GTX 960, so i'm a bit closer to the recommended specs. if you can run the demo well, you should get the game, because the single player is a blast, probably the best single-player i've had in any recent FPS game since over a decade back. and the weird part is, it has a much more interesting story than Doom 3 too, IMO.
Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
This game is ULTRA optimized. I'm on an i7 950 (a CPU from roughly around 2010!!!) and a GTX 960, I can actually play at 1920x1200 with the High preset at mostly 50 - 60 FPS! There was a bug that required me to restart the game sometimes when I finish a level (I think it's not flushing the memory properly) but I could blaze through the levels and if I died, I can't blame it on low frame rates.
Fallout 4, on the other hand (High preset and 1920x1200), runs like dog poo...

Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
that just makes me wonder how long my new desktop is going to last, games-wise. i really dislike doing computer maintenance, so i hope my current setup lasts for quite a bit without needing to be upgraded.
edit: so all of a sudden, i'm getting these random crashes at Lazarus Labs. i've looked up what to do about it, and i tried verifying the game cache, but that didn't do anything at all. do i need to change some video setting to get it to stop happening?

Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
so i managed to get past the Lazarus Labs by lowering the Virtual Texture Page Size from Ultra to Medium. it still crashed once for me, but i was able to finish the level now. i guess it's Lazarus Labs specifically that is a bit of a problem area, as i didn't have any crashes on other levels (except for one at the top of Argent Tower.)
i guess these issues will be ironed out with time, though. it's been running just fine for me either way.

You probably share the same issues as me: that level crashed on me several times ago.Viscra Maelstrom wrote:so i managed to get past the Lazarus Labs by lowering the Virtual Texture Page Size from Ultra to Medium. it still crashed once for me, but i was able to finish the level now. i guess it's Lazarus Labs specifically that is a bit of a problem area, as i didn't have any crashes on other levels (except for one at the top of Argent Tower.)

Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
so is there some way to move faster in the game? there's nothing that lets you upgrade the speed of which you're moving around in the game, yet i've seen videos of the game where the player moves around at a pretty fast pace. is it because their specs are much higher and running at a higher framerate, or is it a upgrade you get for getting everything for the Praetor suit?

I'm pretty sure there's a rune that gives you a speed boost for a while after performing a glory kill

The "Blood Fuelled" rune gives you a temporary, stackable speed boost after performing a Glory Kill.Viscra Maelstrom wrote:so is there some way to move faster in the game? there's nothing that lets you upgrade the speed of which you're moving around in the game, yet i've seen videos of the game where the player moves around at a pretty fast pace. is it because their specs are much higher and running at a higher framerate, or is it a upgrade you get for getting everything for the Praetor suit?
Outside of that, yeah, it's probably framerate.
Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
There's a "Haste" temporary powerup (I think it's yellow) scattered in some levels that make you run faster.
