Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
If I had a dollar for every time I had to stop myself from writing lengthy rage-posts about that subject on the Unreal forums, I'd be able to afford a can of Coke from the local servo. Thank heavens for XCOM 2 injecting some sanity into things.
But this is all grossly off topic. Let's talk about ripping and/or tearing.

Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
Just had a "Fuck You Checkpoints" moment. I was at a point of no-return in the Kadingir Sanctuary when I realized I'd missed a secret quite far back. I know it's the only secret left because I've found all except 1 more, and going forward, I know it's a battle arena and the end of the level as there's not much left gray areas on the automap.
Fortunately for me, my backtracking wasn't prevented by a barrier that can't be opened - I just had to traverse a bunch of platforms. The designers have obviously intended players to not be able to jump back after you finish the area because the platforms are placed such that you can only go forward and not the other way around.
After a LOT of dying (fortunately, the previous checkpoint placed for me does not make me lose any progress at all), I managed to exploit the less-than-perfect movement and physics to make that jump.
Of course, after retrieving the secret and going forward again, I was VERY anxious that I don't accidentally fall off the platforms again because that would mean I'd have to do EVERYTHING all over again.
All in all, I made it to the end with 100% stats. After shouting FUCK CHECKPOINTS out loud. ;) I mean seriously, it was either this or REPLAY THE ENTIRE LEVEL just to grab 1 secret. HowAboutNo.jpg

Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
So there are points of no return in the levels. That really sours it for me.
Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
Not all levels are like that, and you have the option to replay any level you have already beaten to go back and get secrets n shit.
Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
Actually I'm pretty show every level has a point of no return and if you missed a secret or collectible, you're screwed. You can replay a level but the secrets/items you find won't register until you finish the level, you can't just quit after getting that 1 thing you missed; you have to play through the entire level for it to register as "found".
And speaking of which, I found ANOTHER one of these at the start of the next level since my last post, and the point of no return was really EARLY on the level!
Here's a tip; be careful if you see a high jump leading down, this is most probably a clue that you can't go back. Also there are plenty of invisible blocking lines. There's a fence which I thought I could jump over to get back to a previous area but nooooooope, invisible collision!
Fuck this, I'm going to cheat. I am not willing to replay through the entire level just for 1 missed collectible that early in the level!

Don't be surprised if it refuses to register the collectible with cheats enabled.Nash wrote:Fuck this, I'm going to cheat. I am not willing to replay through the entire level just for 1 missed collectible that early in the level!

You don't have to play through the entire level. Just find the secret at the start or whatever and quit to the menu.Nash wrote:Fuck this, I'm going to cheat. I am not willing to replay through the entire level just for 1 missed collectible that early in the level!

The critics have spoken!

IGN gave the game 7.1, Gamespot 8, and Polygon 8.5. The Metacritic score is 84 for PC and PS4 and 88 for XONE. 92% of the reviews of Steam are positive.
It's like 1993 all over again!

Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
that's because they didn't release a single-player demoshareware version of the game.

Re: The Official ZDF New Doom Thread
Not the case for me. I just play until the next checkpoint and whatever secrets I've found are locked in.Nash wrote:Actually I'm pretty show every level has a point of no return and if you missed a secret or collectible, you're screwed. yeah, i think collectibles work kind of how they do in the new Wolfenstein games, wherein when you pick something up, it's logged and you won't lose it, should you die or decide to restart the game. it's pretty nice there considering how cinematic those games are, and as a result, much more linear and on-rails.

Here's a video showing all mini-Doomguy collectibles wich actually serves as a 3d models gallery for weapons, characters and enemies.
