Forum rules
The Projects forums are only for projects. If you are asking questions about a project, either find that project's thread, or start a thread in the General section instead.
Got a cool project idea but nothing else? Put it in the project ideas thread instead!
Projects for any Doom-based engine (especially 3DGE) are perfectly acceptable here too.
Please read the full rules for more details.

Yeah, Generations isn't like KDiZD: Generations directly took stuff out of Doom (and Quake1), and put them in the Quake2 engine, while KDiZD is taking Doom1 stuff and using it in Doom2, thus staying in the same game (Doom1 and Doom2 really arnt that much different) Thus, I can see id foxing Generations, but not KDiZD.

So then similarly they could have problems with Doom 1 being mixed with Doom 2. As far as I remember, the two were sold seperately in most cases.NiGHTMARE wrote:Because you'd effectively be able to play a game, or at least something extremely similar to it, without actually owning it; copyrights are being mixed and blurred; etc..
But you're probably right; if they have problems with it being for Doom 2 instead of Doom 1 then that's probably easy to fix....
Now I'm wondering what's taking them so damn long to e-mail Risen back....

As far as copyrights go, that hardly any difference at all.chronoteeth wrote:Well, this is a remake of episode one, right? Well then, id released episode one free.

Exactly, and it is the shareware version available for everyonechronoteeth wrote:Well, this is a remake of episode one, right? Well then, id released episode one free.

Nevertheless, stop that discussion right now, it makes no sense as long as we don't receive any reply from any id-member at all. Let's cross fingers and wish for the best!
Copyright doesn't matter at all in this case. Regardless of where the law stands, I can almost guarantee that id won't give a shit about this project. It's a remake of the shareware episode, it is only available to people who own full copies of the game, and it will only serve to make them look better. id Software aren't that strict when it comes to the use of their material. In this case, where no outside material is being duplicated and the only material used as a base is available for free anyway, I don't see them having any issues with it at all.

Those are very reassuring words indeed.
