The lowest I saw with my 780 was 50 FPS, but I only messed around in the beginning fighting groups of imps and zombies. Haven't been to large outdoor areas with big monsters running around.

I'm averaging around 50-60 but in some rooms I get like less than 30 FPS :/. I tried these cmdline options but saw no obvious improvements? I'm on an i7 950 @ 3.07 GHz, 15 GB DDR3 and NVidia GTX 960 2 GB.
Well most of it seems to come from disabling and re-enabling your GPU before running Doom 4.

Hmm, it seems to me that this game's performance is weird.

So I spent about 2 hours on the Foundry level (to get 100% secrets and collectibles, don't judge LOL) and I was generally averaging around 50-60 throughout the whole level. When I finally got to the exit and the next level was loading... you know before every level, there's this animation with the level's name and some fiery stuff in the background... I think those are movies? Well, when level 4 was loading, I was literally getting 1 frame every 2-3 seconds. It was HORRIBLE, the animation didn't finish - I had to Alt F4 (glad that works, whew).

Immediately jumped back into the game, hit Continue, and suddenly the next level loads ultra fast and I get my 60 FPS back.

So it seems to me the best thing to do when finishing a level is to Save and Quit... I'm guessing that just flushes all the junk in memory.

This is without "-useallavailablecores -sm4" BTW. Weird.

With regards to the lows in the frame rate, there doesn't seem to be any correlation with monster count or whether a specific set of effects is over-used in a single view (like reflections or particles) - it truly is random. Sometimes in the same room, I can stay at 60, but sometimes it get weird and the framerate could either tank to 30 or even 10 (!!!). The only way to solve this is to restart the game.

Sounds like a possible bug or driver issue. Game's only, what, 4 days old now? Throw a bug report to Bethesda / Id (on the official forums?) and maybe we'll see a hotfix soon.

The absolute worst slowdown bug I ever encountered in any engine was planetside 2, which insisted on filling my appdata folder with thousands upon thousands of junk files created whenever I scrolled or zoomed the world map.

Just had my first crash to desktop. Everything was fine, frame rate was 60, there was no obvious trigger - just boom, quit, no error messages.

Lost about 15 minutes of progress.

Guys, checkpoint system in a first person shooter is not okay. :'( I want to murder someone right now for thinking this was a good idea...

Not that I'm arguing... but would you really have manually saved in those 15 minutes somewhere? I know I probably wouldn't have. Checkpoints/autosaves have kept me from losing hours of progress.

I'm addicted to the quicksave button shortcuts in every first person PC game I play. ;)

I honestly like having both. That way you encourage the experimentation that quicksave allows while also using autosaves to mitigate the need for blatantly telegraphing threats before they appear. Granted, sometimes a bit of tension before a tough section is good, but sometime you want to surprise your players without making them lose progress too much because they didn't know that it was a good time to save.

Also, Nash, I'm totally getting that same problem with the slowdown, and using the same solution. I hope they fix that issue soon.

The BFG releases a single orb per shot that lets out bolts of Argent Energy. They are capable of killing almost every enemy in one bolt, but some require a more violent approach (like being hit directly by the orb, I'm looking at you Barons on UV).

50 guns? What? I've played MP a bit and I haven't seen 50 guns, that's insane! There's actually closer to about 15, including power weapons, give or take 2 or 3.
Some of the weapons on MP are exclusive to it, as are some weapons' mods.Vortex Rifle, Burst Rifle, and the Hellshot are MP exclusive.

The SP is my favorite part of the game thus far, and I've found nearly every collectable, but I warn everyone to be careful; if you restart a level, it doesn't only reset that level's progress. I got to level 13, decided to go and do all the Stuff I missed, then went to do level 13, missed something, restarted, and lost ALL the stuff I went and did.

SnapMap, on a short note, is about as much as I expected. Meh.
50 guns is an exaggeration, but while looking through the MP menus it felt like there was at least triple the amount of guns to unlock. Like I said, I didnt want to get spoiled so I didnt look at the names, but I just completed wtf myself when I was scrolling down what seemed to be an endless amount of guns. I have yet to play MP, just went through all the menus in the game.

Me too. Every program, really. When the power goes out and everyone is like "Damnit I lost an hour's work!" I lost like 5 minutes of work if I had a bad save day.

Perhaps the checkpoint system was implemented to prevent save scumming like in the original games (such as straight before and after a difficult enemy or other similar situation) .

If they did so to prevent savescumming, that is REALLY bad. Why the hell you should restrict the player like that in the singleplayer mode?! It is your playthrough, and more options the better. In classic Doom you can play "honestly", or savescum, or just type IDKFA and IDDQD right off the bat. It is your choice how to have fun. I read that quicksaves got disabled because of technical reasons or something... I do not know. No quicksaves is a bad decision either way (and as I said before, I do not even use quicksaves).
I looked into Burst Rifle and Hellshot videos. BR is similar to Halo's Battle Rifle - primary mode fires a triple burst, but the secondary mode toggles zoom and is restricted to single shots. What a relief that you can actually fire it 1 round at the time - the Battle Rifle in Halo was just stupid, firing ONLY 3 rounds bursts (what if I would want to conserve ammo and go strictly for headshots!?). Hellshot, however, seems to be inspired by Hell Rifle that is featured in Project Brutality and X-Weapon - it is charged with some kind of red electricity and fires red energy blasts rather slowly. Why is it here, really? It might be intended to be a mid-range weapon, but why should you use it instead of lightning gun or machine gun?

Well speaking of multiplayer, I played an hour worth of freezetag and it was pretty fun.

The problem is just that the multiplayer systems are awful for any sort of chit-chat and community building.
There are no servers and you cannot make text messages unless you're in the game and you're alive (which is to say, when you have the least amount of time to chit-chat).

just awful
