Necrotic Perishables.
Re: Rise of the Dead!
WIP base mesh, managed to reduce the polygons, so GZDoom doesn't lag so much...
EDIT: spoiler'd for polygonal nudity

Re: Rise of the Dead!
i dont know how well 1000 poly's will go over. if you're using 3dsmax theres a feature there called optimize; its a little tricky but if you can get it to work you'll be down to 300-400 poly's no problem
Re: Rise of the Dead!
Any form of automatic polygon reduction is bad. The best way is to do it manually.

Re: Rise of the Dead!
true. i know they also have advanced plugins for optimize that are much more efficient and accurate

Re: Rise of the Dead!
zomg its nakid put dat in spiolar!1
Not bad for an organic model. I'd merge the fingers (and possibly the toes) to shave a ton of polygons. You could flatten the ears too.
Just be careful what you take off as far as rounded areas. Sharp angles are what make most organics in model packs look like shit. :/

Re: Rise of the Dead!
The feet will most probably be gone because most of the zombies have shoes on. But since this is the base mesh which will be used to model the variations, the feet needed to be done anyway, just in case I want a shoe-less zombie.
I want the individual fingers and the ears. :) I don't want it to be too low poly.
The only reason GZDoom lags on models so much is because there doesn't seem to be any polygon culling going on. And it renders backfaces by default too. Maybe I'd get inclinded enough to learn C++ and fix it myself and submit a patch to Graf. Or maybe make a feature request to Torr (he's done a lot of improvements to the MD3 renderer in the past). Or something. Haha.

Those are really amazing. Especially for <=1000 faces.Nash wrote:More model progress!
Hope you'll have a video of them in animation soon.
Re: Rise of the Dead!
Holy forum game, Batman!
I think we've played a serious (or not) round of "Name the game", if one might call it that.
Now... Did anyone say "Dead Pervalence"? (Pronounced perv-o-lens?)
Dead plague, dead scavengers... Say, Nash, did you settle on anything?
Impolite unrest... (Even though it lacks the word.)
"Deadbuster(s)" might actually be good for something, although it implies a different mood than survival/horror.
Dead Disaster (new suggestion)
Relentless dead (one of the few titles that may effectively imply horror in two words; it is a more specific version of "living dead")

Re: Rise of the Dead!
There are a lot of good suggestions but I haven't settled on anything yet... currently focusing on mapping and modeling...
Re: Rise of the Dead!
... and some more model progress. At this point, the base meshes are pretty much complete. NOW we will begin working on the variations (where these zombies will be properly clothed, haired and animated)...
Again, polygonal nudity warning.

Spoiler:Yes, there will be child zombies in the game and yes, you can disable them if you're against that kinda thing.
Re: Rise of the Dead!
Those look pretty neat. Are you making them yourself?
I'm happy that you are are putting in child zombies. I get fed up of the seeming tabu where people never show children in games, movies, whatever unless they are in a positive light or the plucky one who survives. It seems that you are most likely to be a bad guy, or at least get killed by a protagonist, if you are in your 20s-30s and a white male. Women? Nope. Races other than white? Too racist. Kids, too cruel. Bah! When the zombie apocalypse arrives, it will make no distinction between races, genders or ages. Everyone is doomed! (Except for me and my shotgun, of course.)

Re: Rise of the Dead!
Nope, they're modeled by a professional freelance 3-d graphics artist. It IS costing me some money, but I'm really satisfied with his quality and work ethics... he's getting things done, and very fast too - I can't complain. :D
He's charging me a one-time fee to model these 6 base meshes, and they will be rigged (meaning there will be skeletons attached to them, ready for animation).
We are right now at phase 1 of model production, which is preparing the base meshes and rigging them so that they're animation-ready. Phase 2 is the variation production phase, where specific zombies will be produced. So if I want a nurse zombie, he will pick out the "female average" model to use as a template, and just tweak: add clothes, hair, etc. The base skeleton will be used for all variations, so we need to animate the base model only once - all variations will reuse the same animation data. This saves plenty of time!
And I agree with your opinion - I find it so weird that the children in Fallout 3 are all in god mode. :P
I understand that some people genuinely have issues with it, so I have "don't spawn child zombies" button in the game options...
