Trying to make a "gothic" set by trial and error by painting directly on a simple quickly-made map in Blender for the purpose of creating texture sets

i'm liking those reloads
though some movements could be made a little stiffer
such as inserting the mag for the automatic guns
and the rifle's recoil is a bit too smooth. also the clip seems to go into the gun after the bullets, which doesn't make any sense

I was actually trying really hard to think of a good chainsaw replacement that isn't a shovel/entrenching tool and I thought "wait maybe I should just make it a chainsaw" but I dunno, do you guys think that's kinda boring? I'm thinking I should make a set of trench traiding club sprites or something.

Thanks for the feedback, but I think I enjoy the "smoother" type reload animations personally. They reminded me of old 90s FPS games that did some tricky weapon offset stuff to make it look like the animation is more interesting but it's actually operating on a very limited amount of frames. There was actually a time when the animations were a bit more stiff but I decided to ditch it. As for the recoil, you may not be able to see it but I made the automatic weapons shake around build engine style using A_WeaponOffset(FRandom(-1, 1), FRandom(-1, 1), WOF_ADD) which makes it a lot less smooth, but it's harder to see in the video because I was recording at half the resolution and my computer was kind of overwhelmed at the time so instead of being the full 50 - 60 FPS it looks more like 30. I did make the weapons "snap" a bit more during their fire animations but it ended up looking kind of sloppy and bad so I opted for the smoother type. Not too sure what you mean by the last part though about the clip and the bullets though.

I don't think chainsaw or the same thing existed during the ww2. Maybe you should put some kind of shovel or melee weapons that are more deadliler than a knife.

So my suggestion goes to ww2 swords and weapons such as Luftwaffe sword and US army hatchet.

I actually was wondering the same thing. "Wait, did chainsaws exist, like, before the '50s or something? Honestly I have no clue and I have literally 0 knowledge about the history of chainsaws" and when I googled it, it turns out "modern" chainsaws were around as early as the late '20s. Luckily enough, Wikipedia found it necessary to mention that WWII halted the imports of German chainsaws in the US which leads me to believe that perhaps chainsaws in Germany were fairly common in the world of power tools around the '40s.

Anyway, all this chainsaw bullcrap aside, I was thinking of doing a fancy SS sword set or something like you said, but I'm wondering how much it'll be functionally different than the knife. Hmm... The shovel is the best option seeing that it can cover more of a damaging area onscreen, though I'm desperately trying not to have anything similar to ww-nazis. Something that can replicate this behavior and not be a shovel is a trench club, but finding it around in a WWII setting is kind of a stretch. But heck, same with a chainsaw. Actually, as if any of that matters. Damn, I need a poll or something.

Yes, i've noticed the chainsaw was already existed during ww2. So my bad and The more you know- But still the chainsaws in ww2 i see is always operated by two men, not single.

And yeah, SS with sword is perfect idea. And as for the sword's peculiarity, i'd put the wave that slices through the nazis when swing it, like zantetsu sword from metal slug series.

EDIT: Okay, i'm getting curious and ever, if someone knows the personal chainsaw variations during the 20's~40's, please let me know.

And i just found one. Tell me, is it actually came before the war?

Enjoy these small, horrible dark screenshots of a project I am working on:
Spoiler:
Also, ignore that cheeseburger.

This will be a project that focuses on small maps. I want to actually release a bigger project other than just items and weapons all the time, so I am working on this! The Heretic project I wanted to work on would take quite a while, since I would like to have quite a number of custom enemies in it. Anyway, I hope to release a demo soon once I complete a few maps. I am still not sure if I will use all vanilla weapons/monsters for compatibility with mods or not. The maps will definitely not be this dark all the time either. This is just the first level and it calls for it.
