I got the reference you did there. But to me, it does looks like 1997~2000 PC Game developer logo animations, if you ask me! I don't know, but maybe fancy sound?

Well, yeah, it is higher resolution than it needs to be (1280x720 as opposed to the original 320x200), but the sound is 100% authentic Roland MT-32 off a real 486 computer.

It makes me think I'm about to watch a LaserDisc, so it's getting me back to the right era.

Yeah, hands aren't easy, I'm kinda lucky to be able to draw decent hands and feet despite how little specific practice I did on them - don't worry I have problems in other areas instead ^^

Overall I think that the best approach is to look some kind of breakdown method first - even going through reference, hand are complex enough that there's a lot of room for trial and error and it's hard (and takes a long time) to devise your own conscious approach.

Personally I'd start out with Loomis - this page made it "click" for me on many levels after I studied it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/620 ... _hands.jpg (From "Drawing The Head & The Hands")
And if you want to study further, I'd go with studying either Burne Hogarth (Focus on flow and organic form) or Georg Bridgman (Focus on planes and blocky interlocking forms) - depending on the preference, imo Bridgman is more functional, but hard to study.

Cheers!

One small but significant After Effects tip I can give, is that you should look into different key frame types :) Mainly the bezier and ease in/ease out/ease ease interpolation types - those often get overlooked in the beginning. They let you either smooth out the transitions or make the animation use non-linear dynamics, which are often much more pleasing to humans, since we don't like jumps that much ;) And overall can lend to a very polished look. Dynamics between keyframes can be further edited using the graph view.

somehow, hands seem to be easy for me. (when drawing, not modeling, the only thing i've ever modeled was a car i never found out how to put into Carmageddon 1.)

Cheers! This advice will be most helpful!

EDIT: On another, slightly related note, I FINALLY got a weapon I'm making to properly play a sound after it fires. All I have to do now is figure out how make an appropriate, non-annoying looping sound for when the player is holding it.

Thank you, in fact I'm a big fan of ease in/ease out movements myself, but in this video's case, their absence is mostly intentional. This was my reference, for what it's worth (only the first few seconds on the video are relevant; feel free to just switch it off after that if you don't want to hear some guy talking over the game).

Now that I can see the video correctly I am gleeing. Also, seeing as I have a logo I can use for myself, I should totally make some sort of outro for my videos. I still don't have enough footage compiled to make an intro, hilariously enough.

I hope you enjoy my state. Where the weather is as fickle as a damned goldfish and it doesn't matter that it was sunny 5 minutes ago.

Speaking of which, i was caught in a sudden shower yesterday. Although that day was hot and sunny, but the clouds had to rain because they can anyways.
