If I told you it's a lovely purple burgundy, would that be good enough? (Here's hoping I still like it as much once it fades.)Caligari_87 wrote:I think this warrants another post in the selfie thread!

Had to google that color; looks like a fun choice. I tried to go midnight blue once, but my hair doesn't color well at all, sadly.

I am looking to buy a new Windows 8 laptop computer and I want it to be for gaming. What kind of laptop computer should I get that is not too expensive?
$500 is my sending limit.

I have some news for you and it's all bad. Your expectations are too low.Hellsmith1 wrote:$500

I know this is a troll account but I was wondering what the screenshot from https://twitter.com/doom_txt/status/583135989058703360 is from, I'm curious.

Well right now I have an Windows 7 gateway laptop computer but its not going to last that long.
Actually I can send $850 on a windows 8 laptop computer but it had to be in between $500 & &850 that's how high that I can go.
I can't afford a desktop computer there way too high for me.

That's D-GLES (and boy I'd love to see that water in GZDoom...).Nash wrote:I know this is a troll account but I was wondering what the screenshot from https://twitter.com/doom_txt/status/583135989058703360 is from, I'm curious.

DoomGLES. Although I don't know why you would want to purposefully look for something that looks like butts.Nash wrote:I know this is a troll account but I was wondering what the screenshot from https://twitter.com/doom_txt/status/583135989058703360 is from, I'm curious.

Edit: Gah MaxED!
Desktops are typically cheaper than laptops.Hellsmith1 wrote:Actually I can send $850 on a windows 8 laptop computer but it had to be in between $500 & &850 that's how high that I can go.

Yeah but you can't take a desktop with you through.
I just want to know what is the best windows 8 laptop computer to use for gaming?

What a silly and incorrect argument.Hellsmith1 wrote:I can't afford a desktop computer there way too high for me.
Gaming laptops can be cheaper than gaming desktops if you don't have any peripherals, but I really doubt you're lacking those. For your spending limit, gaming desktop is the way to go, and you can definetly get something worthwhile for $850. Prices are your problem, sorry.
On the other hand - does anyone know of a way to save or lock the layout of desktop icons in Windows 8.1? Resolution changes between applications can sometimes mess everything up if I run something at 800x600 and go back to desktop. Annoying when everything is supposed to look like this.

Nice choice of games
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Yeah. A few of those games are acquired via family sharing though.

Anything that you see on my desktop but do not see in the above link is a shared game.

A budget gaming laptop, yeah, but those won't hold up to time as long as a desktop. If you go for a high-end gaming laptop, the desktop WILL be cheaper (if you build it yourself. Pre-built desktops are always more expensive).undead003 wrote:Gaming laptops can be cheaper than gaming desktops if you don't have any peripherals, but I really doubt you're lacking those
For example, I just built my gaming PC for about $950 (including keyboard, mouse and controller). Friend of mine just got a laptop with an almost equivalent GPU for $1200.

Oh yeah. Care to share what your setup looks like?

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
if you were as old as you claimed to be through nostalgia anecdotes you would have known desktop pcs couldn't get any lower than they are right nowHellsmith1 wrote:I can't afford a desktop computer there way too high for me.
In "the good old school day's" a low-end Pentium system without cache would have set you back $2,100+ and that's not the kind of Pentium that would handle Zdoom either. Adjust that for inflation and then claim the price of desktop pcs are too damn high
as for gaming laptops.... pfft, unless you like having a soon obsolete hot plate on your lap and are willing to blow it for more iterations, don't bother. besides, gaming on a laptop, with PC games in mind, isn't much of a great experience without a proper full posture keyboard+mouse setup, and even not for gaming it can be terrible for 3d editing. The only games I can stand to play on a laptop are keyboard-only games which vary a lot depending on whether they use the numpad. Doom falls into this category as I can still complete the game on default keyboard controls
