Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
I started to regret my decision to expect a lot from programming-lessons in school.
Last year, 2nd grade, we started. With C#. C++ isn't important enough, I guess.
We never learned how to use data-bases. It's not like databases are very useful for programs that work with a lot of externally saved DATA.
Yesterday, we finished a cryptorgraphy-program. Basically, the teacher told us to copy the code from the MSDN-page. He never explained how the algorithm works, because he thinks it's "too difficult and complex".
Then, for the open-day of our school, we were supposed to familirize ourselfs with "AntMe", so we can show visitors our mad h4xx0r-skills. Basically, you program ants that collect sugar and defend themselves from different enemies, on a pre-existing engine. Showing them an ACS-script would have been way more interesting, if you ask me.
He told us to use the basic-version, because that's how we learn best. The editable area of code is like ~500 lines. You just insert "Move_Forward()", "PickUp(Shugar)"... in the right place. Who wants to learn how to program a game from scratch anyway?

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
yeah, i heard about that from looking around a bit on different formats. thing is, i don't know anything about said systems because i was born in the 90s, so i don't have any strong attachments to them (i don't know exactly when those systems were big.) so if i'd see old systems like that for sale, i know i'd be in luck. however, is it even worth collecting games for like Nintendo and Sega's old systems in the PAL region? or is it better off importing NTSC to here?Kinsie wrote:Old microcomputers like the Commodore 64 and the Amiga tend to have a very Euro-centric library.Viscra Maelstrom wrote:is it even worth bothering to collect retro games that are in the PAL format?

Only if you really love "games" from oshit ocean, codebastardsmasters and usexcrement gold
To me the "better" games tend to be ok arcade game ports, Epyx games and Cinemaware stuffs, which is what were available stateside at least anyway.

Does anyone have Horizon Diamond? and can they confirm that the halo 4 profile editor still works as of today?

Arnie should play DoomGuy in a Doom-Movie, if there's ever gonna be another one.

Played the MH4U Demo today, Good fun! Can't wait for the 13th so I can tackle these monsters with my own hunter and not these presets.
It's making me seriously consider a New 3DS XL though because I'm not sure I can play this without circle pad pro features and I'd rather not get the original CPP, The Camera is really hard to deal with. I was gonna get Xenoblade Chronicles 3D down the line anyway though so I might as well.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Oh, programming courses? I know about that too. Did a degree called "multiplatform application development".
What did it involve? Java, Python, Visual Basic 6.0 and SQL Server. What platform did we work with? Only Windows.

Sounds like they're focusing on programming that'll get you a job. How very odd.

Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Well, then they shouldn't call it "Multiplattform Application Development" if they focus just on Windows.
Re: The New What Did You Last Do Thread
Just has a miserable, cold week. Our central heating failed on Sunday and hours later, so did our Internet connection. The heating needed a part to be ordered and, because we are on a private Internet system, a part also needed to be ordered to get the main sender station for the Internet fixed too. Both took a number of days to sort out. The heating got fixed last night and the Internet about mid day today. With snow lying on the ground, it was a pretty awful week for the heating to fail and the lack of Internet just added to the misery. It was pretty unpleasant wandering around the house with it cold enough for ice to form inside the windows and clouds of condensation appearing in front of us when we breathed.

Damn, Enjay. I'm probably heading back to the UK next month for a bit, and your story reminds me of just how cold it got for us at times, too. Granted, it was late November at the time, but wow was that last morning in England chilly. That's the coldest I've ever felt inside a house. I felt like my vital organs were failing.

I've heard of companies using VBDoomRater wrote:Wait, VB6 gets you a job? Where?
But no, I was referring to C#, Java and Python.
