The problem is, 'good' dos platformers are always going to be the same old ApogeEpic laundry list everyone and their dog are already familiar with. (even in the bbs days since they shove their way to the top of the filelist starting their archives with 1 you couldn't view a games list without them showing up.)

so............ Charlie the Duck? Cyril Cyberpunk? Orion Odyssey?

Can't get enough of this Wii Punch-out footage. I know what's on my gaming wish list.

But I'll wait to pick it up until I'm with people I can actually play against. Single player isn't going to take me that much time and it's like practice anyway.

I asked another forum about future DOS platformers to tackle, and they suggested Thexder. Oooof, that PC speaker soundtrack.

Multiplayer is a shortlived flailing sideshow. Single player is the meat and soul of Punch-Out. It's a puzzle game about pattern recognition and timing!

Look into the sequel, Fire Hawk: Thexder The Second Contact. Sierra composed a whole soundtrack for it that plays on Roland MT-32 hardware and sounds pretty cool. Just ignore Thexder 95. It's quite awful.

Incidentally, if you're looking for other DOS platformers that may have been overlooked, maybe you could make some sense out of Baron Baldric: A Grave Overture, Dark Wolf, or find some potential awesome in Alien Rampage and Dig It!.

Not from what I'm seeing! Not only are there one hit knockdowns and one hit KOs in multiplayer, but getting practice in at single player is only going to prepare me for the timings I'll need in head to head.

Very yes. One of those rare things that makes me audibly swear and quickly close the page. Fortunately the few friends of mine that were interested in it have since moved on, since my friends tend to not be idiots.

Still haven't decided whether obnoxious things are more likely to become popular, or popular things are more likely to become obnoxious. I suspect it might be a bit of both. :?

Love the concept. Hate the raving popularity.

Come to think about it, there may also be Zeliard if you haven't heard of it already.

I don't even like the concept or the genre, so that only makes it worse for me.

In other news: Working on music for a project, and somehow I'm actually happy with how it's coming out. It's too bad I'm not entirely free to share it with others. :(

You haven't played Portrait of Ruin right? DOS was pretty decent, not that good but still decent, what i like is the classic metroidvania exploration of the castle which i found good unlike the other DS castlevanias, but still Order of Ecclesia is my favorite

This is like saying that you're getting Unreal Tournament for the plot.

I have a couple of the other Sierrra/Game Arts collabs (Zeliard and Silpheed) and that's why the audio was such a shock - those games have lovely MT32-enhanced MIDI, Thexder... doesn't.

Supposedly the Tandy version has nicer audio on account of that PC variant's wacky audio setup (three modified PC speakers strapped together!), but I haven't found that.
