There was a bug with a much earlier version - one of the 1.23 betas - where changing the cheat codes gave some screwy effects. Can't remember what. I think it was things like when you typed a cheat the wrong one got activated, or partially activated (e.g. you got some weapons, but not others, armour increased but not health, you got weapons but were prevented from switching to them). Those examples are probably wrong, but it was that sort of thing.

Anyway, a discussion ensued and the outcome of it was that most people despised cheat code changing, a significant number of people would edit downloaded dehacked patches to remove changed cheats and it was acknowledged that it was fairly pointless seeing as how all cheats can be emulated via the console anyway. The consensus from all of this was that cheat code changing via dehacked should not be fixed, but removed entirely. And so it came to pass...

Also because, if the player wants to use cheat codes, the map designer has no business stopping him/her.

If you don't want to stop people using them, why change them? It only forces players to learn new cheat codes, therefore making it less likely that they'll want to spend time on the mod.

I agree. But even funnier, if you DID change them you could simply use the cheats on the console :|

I agree. Back in the days when dehacked was all we had, changing cheat codes was fun; it was a laugh; it made the conversion seem more total (see Fischer's Aliens Doom and AOD Doom).

But now, it's just pointless, adds nothing to the gameplay and wastes people's time.

Heh, I always hated the cheat changing as well. I always had to open the patch and figure out what the heck they were. :P

I usually just opened the patch and deleted the changes.
