Random Map Layout
Re: Random Map Layout
As a creative work, a Doom map is covered under copyright, so yes, it can be licensed under Creative Commons. As far as "should", I say yes, absolutely. Both in the sense of using an explicit, established license for Doom mod resources and with respect to releasing map layouts/bases as resources. I am in favor of openly available resources, so no objection to adding layouts to the list.

Nash was talking about the performance with lots of dynamic lights placed in the map.doomfiend wrote:I wouldn't know about performance drop really... I have an over powered pc to compensate for low end pcs... when I load it in zandronaids / GZDoom i get a flat 500 fps with no drop what so ever. but why anyone would need 500 frames is beyond me... :V

Re: Random Map Layout
Hmm... just tested it on my old laptop and the framerate was still playable... but then again I didn't finish the map yet... if it starts to become problematic I may need to cut down on the lights or shorten the map length which I hope wont be the cause. D: I'll keep you posted if interested on how this turns out.
Re: Random Map Layout
Considering your monster machine, I think people could get around 60-120 FPS. Though I'd be getting around 20-30 FPS myself.
Re: Random Map Layout
There have been suggestions that I should add some ambient sounds (Preferably doom 3 ones) Should I go for it or would you guys do without?

Add whatever you like!
Re: Random Map Layout
Here you go fuzzball. used another 2 of your rooms. and filled them up with detail and dynamic lights.

Spoiler:Edit: The only reason why the light sources are not lit up are because I'm trying to take advantage of Brightmaps which work wonderfully in game, Sadly My GZDoom builder doesn't wanna show them in visual mode
Re: Random Map Layout
Does that mean the brightness level is actually 0 ?doomfiend wrote:The example I'm showing here is a map that only uses Dynamic lights as its light source. No static lights, will take advantage of Brightmaps for added value
Also great job so far keep it up
Re: Random Map Layout
Yes the entire level has a brightness of 0 tested the map on my old laptop and still get smooth silky frame rate which is very important. map is about 20% done now. :3

Re: Random Map Layout
Or a contest? "Take this map layout and make it as cool as possible." Sounds good! Not that I can participate, heh.
