There's also the deal that applies to "music was so much better in (decade)" - the crap tends to get drowned out, and there's no longer any waiting time for the next album/wad in a row to come out. I remember it took forever for Daedelus to come out, but I have to make myself remember the waiting.

I don't think the community is out of ideas, but many of those ideas tend to tragically peter out early. So a low percentage of them come to completion.

That much said, I DO think there's a lot of clashing egos. Not naming names, since I don't think it takes a genius to know whom I'm talking about, especially not in light of recent events.

It's frustrating because it's...Well, BORING, really. I can only put up with popcorn antics for so long.

My projects are a example of "solo long completion", my first was bad because really i pushed too much time on it when i learned many things about Doom modding making it a salad wad (things from different games, Doom, Heretic, Quake, Descent, Blood etc...).

And now i'm holding only 1 of 3 projects that i want finish, but Hunter's Moon is really far from what i want yet and not only a weapons/monsters mod, i get my motivation from movies and music, since the games today is really cliche.

When have only one developer in a mod it really tends to take much more time to release than a Team-project, in expection of Pyroscourge, dunno wtf he does to complete his projects so fast, super-dedication maybe?

The fact is, the community is not out of ideas, but is out of patience to spent on them since it will take time to finish, because everyone want make one alone.

I have an awful lot of ideas, unfortunately i lack both time and motivation. Might post some of them here, but im sure they will get lost/buried and nobody will ever find them, let alone use them.

Give me two clones of myself -- equipment not even required -- and I'll get you a kickass mod in a couple months. Lack of time also plagues me.

That wouldn't work for me. I/we'd probably kill each other. As to the topic, motivation is not a problem for me. Aside from being a manic developer, I'm also obsessive. Once I get an idea, I need to see if it works or not to quell my curiosity. My achilles heel is mapping. Often times I come to a blank for layouts (it's what killed Stargate Bastet). I've also canned projects because I don't have the skill set to properly animate models.

I ended up retiring from ZDoom modding simply because of a lack of proper multi-player capability, to my knowledge there isn't any builds around that have many of the latest features and stuff I would need to deliver the experience I wanted out of a small project I worked many years on. Unless my fully envisioned work can be enjoyed properly from a cooperative or deathmatch experience on a regular basis by my family, friends and others online, I lost my motivation quite sadly and now focused on helping someone mod Quake II for a server since I'm a hardcore multi-player lover.

But at least I still enjoy when I have the time to play other mods made here and provide feedback when I can, sometimes a good single player experience is always welcome as a break from my daily grinds but it only lasts so long for me. Nonetheless long as nice mods are being made here I'll be enjoying them when I have the time =^.^=

The Doom community has always been like that with projects. Best to just play the wads and let everyone bitch, complain or gush. The only issue I have with Brutal Doom isn't the mod itself but the 8,000 variations of it that have cropped up. I can't tell what is what or who is making what, not that I will ever play it anyway.

yup, thats exactly how i felt and thats why i nixed it hahaha. let people bitch, ill just hover and make my stuff...which is a map pack and a weapons mod for brutal...yup...im that guy haha. it sucks but there are a lot of features i like and want to utilize.
i think theres really exciting stuff with map packs going down right now. like that gravity one is really inventive, if it wasnt so gimmicky and madea legit pack itd be something really new.
